Default Getting ready to pull the trigger on headers/exh - need some help

I have a 2006 C6 Auto (A6) Convertible and am about to pull the trigger on headers and/or exhaust. I have read many postings on here about exhaust and just wanted to get one round of feedback before I pull the trigger (I am still on the fence between a couple of options).

My goals are:
1) Some additional HP
2) Slightly louder muscle car sound - not too much

I have read advise from those that recommend Headers only (looking at LG and Kook, long tubes)
Others that recommend Cat Back (Borla Touring)
And those that say both...

I am concerned about drone and issues with CEL errors or other issues with changing out an exhaust.

If I go with Headers only first, do I lose anything by coming back later and adding the cat back (more work, replacing parts that I just installed during the header install, etc).
Also, some people go without CATs what are the pros and cons of that (compared to high flow cats).

Any other comments would be appreciated... I am going to order "something" by the weekend.

Default Pull the trigger

I have kooks system, just like LG's the system goes all the way back to the pipes that would be included in your cat back system. So no double labor, there separate, one bolts to the other. Either system works great. As for CAT back systems: If your looking for loud, then B&B bullets, corsa sports, and Borlas fit that ticket. Good sound that's not loud, Magnaflows ( I have them ), Corsa touring, B&B PRT's should fill the ticket. Find some people in your area that have them and take a ride. My magnaflows have a euro sound when your on it. Otherwise, there's no drone or cabin noise at highway speeds. You can actually listen to you sound system and have a conversation when driving with magnaflows. Loud for the sake of loud is a dead end. It doesn't mean you're fast and powerful. It just means you're loud!! My .02 cents

Get LG's or Kooks and Jet Hot coat them to avoid a CEL. If you don't like the sound with the stock exhaust, (I think you will) then you can add the GHL's designed for the A6. They should have worked out the bugs by then.

i gotta go with tommyV on this one: I recently installed Melrose Jet Hot Coated headers (long tube but not quite as long as the LG's or Kooks I hear?), hi-flo cats with x-pipe AND, GET THIS: stock, yes stock mufflers! Originally, my exhaust system consisted of stock exhaust manifolds, OEM CATS, Corsa x-pipe with Corsa Sport mufflers. Well, I put on the new system with the Corsa Sports but, alas, just loud enough where I thoght the wife wouldn't like it so I had the shop take off the Corsa's and re-install the OEM mufflers. Now its not too loud, NO DREADED DRONE, and although its on the quiet side, the exhaust chugs and purrs just enough to let you know "something" has been done to the car but tuff to figure out just what it was.
Love it, its for me.
Good Luck
