Default Problem with Diablo Sport - Predator !!! ( Updated - Problem Fixed )

Hello , as I have posted on here in the last few weeks , I have put a LPE CAI , Borla exhaust , and now I just had SLP Headers and high flow cats installed on my 05 Z51 MN6.

When my shop put the headers and cats on last week , they were going to use the Predator to give me a dyno tune. Since it was all being installed on Saturday , Diablo tech support was unavailable , and sure enough there was a problem. My shop couldent get the Predator to recognize the car , it kept reading that it didnt recognize the part( car) . So I took the car home with no tune. He had me come in Tuesday and tried a differernt approach. They told him to pull the radio and a few other fuses and try to install it again. Same problem.

Now what Pi$$es me off. The shop calls back their tech support and they tell him , oh well the car needs a computer upgrade. They then tell him to tell me to get the car into the dealer , LIE to them and tell them that I am throwing a p0336 code. They tell us that the dealer will look up if there are any possible computer software updates for the car while it is in the shop.

I have alot of issues with this.
1) Why should I have to lie and be put on the spot ? It's real easy for Diablo to say this , when they arent the ones who have to go into the dealer and stand in front of them lieing.

2) What if they look up the code and start messing with the engine ? The code is apparently for a crankcase problem. What makes Diablo so sure they will just update the computer ?

3) Why in the world would they not tell you about this possibility BEFORE I had long tube headers put on the car ? Now I have to go into the dealer with a car that has been modified and lie to them about codes , and hope they dont rip apart my engine.

I actually talked to Diablo Sport before I even orderded the headers and they told me absolutely that it was plug and play. They never mentioned ANY possibility that the car could have an issue that would make the Predator not work. So because they failed to mention this possibility now I am the one being put on the spot. I am also the one being run all over town , taking my car back and forth to the shop , and now taking it to the dealer. What a joke.

Well , the car is going into the dealer in a few hours here so that tommorrow they can hopefully do the upgrade. IF this works , then I am going back to the shop on Saturday to see if it links up to my car and I can get the dyno tune. I will keep everyone posted.

After all this running around and aggrevation , they better hope that this fixes the problem , or else I will get on here everyday and post articles warning people not to buy the Diablo Sport Predator. At the very least they should of warned me my car needs to have the latest software update for their piece of crap to work on my car.

Welcome to the Diablo Zone and the C6.

What is happening, is the Diablo is writing to the most current ECM programming and only that programming. As you can guess, the new coding does not match up 100% (fan speed, WOT 4 to 7K etc etc) with older ECM versions; however, Diablo could though different code templates, detect and support the older ECM versions-they just aren't. I don't know if this is a common practice with hand held programmers, but I suspect it is. In any case, IMO the Diablo programmer is just a so-so product at best-I'm surprised your tuner is depending upon such a limited tool.

I am thinking the same thing now about the Predator myself. My tuner is a Diablo Sport vendor , so that is only what he uses.

I am just hoping that this resolves the issue. I actually just dropped the car off an hour ago , so hopefully they get it updated tommorrow.

What you said makes sense , even if Diablo is retarded for doing it that way. I wondered why they wouldnt recognize older software myself.

I was a little worried that it was a BS reason from them , but from what you said , it probably is why it didnt work.

Thanks.

Hopefully, the new flash will allow the predator tune to install, but a review of some old threads in the tuning section doesn't support success-seems to depend on the age of your car with the 2004's and early 2005's not handling the revision 95.

So are you saying that even with the dealer giving me all the latest updates , this dang Predator still may not work ?

Thanks for the info. It's at the Dealer now , I get it back tommorrow. So hopefully when I get it back to the tuner on Saturday it works fine , but if not I will ask him about getting the older version on the Predator.

I had the same problem after updateing the Predator software to the latest version. It worked fine after the ECM was reflashed by the dealer. Diablo has a warning on their update website regarding the need for the latest ECM flash for the update to work.

I'm glad to read I am not alone in this. I hope it all works out , and I will update the situation Saturday after I hopefully get my tune.

OK , dealer updating the car worked. The Predator tune went in fine afterwards.

For the Results:

Dyno after LPE CAI / Borla Exhaust = 360.7 HP / 355.6 TQ

Dyno after LPE CAI / Borla Exhaust / SLP Headers = 370.8 HP / 364.7 TQ

Dyno after LPE CAI / Borla Exhaust / SLP Headers / Predator Tune = 376.6 HP / 370.6 TQ
