My 06 C6 Z51 6MN has a loud and alarming noise, sounds like a rattling panel/shield under the right/passenger side of the car. At times sounded from under the firewall area. Seems to only happen when the car is started up, from a rest, even as little as 1, or 2 hours rest.
It only has 1100 miles in 2 months.
Seems to have started noticing it after I put on the Borla stingers. But going over the joints, everything is tight and good.
Took it to the local dealer, the service guy said that these C6's have a heavy drivetrain, so at cold, it puts a lot of stress to the whole drivetrain and creates a vibration that can be heard and felt??? On a new $50K car?
It sounds like the new exhaust does not have the proper clearance from something. Check it out when it's cold because they will expand when they warm up. Check the entire exhaust system by hitting it with your fist and listen for the noise.
Look VERY close at the passenger side exhaust pipe right in front of the rearend. Where it comes CLOSE to the frame as it goes up and over to the rear. I had to "clearance" mine in that area. There was no way to adjust normally to clear. Just reach up and push it over to contact the frame. If you can do it by hand, you need more clearance.
My 06 did the exact same thing after I put on the LGs, x pipe, and no cats on. Put the car on the lift and took a good look at evreything, nothing was hitting. Then all of a sudden I heard the noise after the car had been running for like 20 min.
I couldn't tell where it was coming from. Knowing the noise was not there before the new exhaust I went and got some leather gloves and grabbed the header. Sure enough the bolts the held the header to motor behind the flywheel were loose causing this vibration/rattle noise. I took a round peice of rubber and a washer on thebolts that held each header. No more problems, it was driving me crazy.I should of used washers in the first place.
