Default 06 a6 stock dyno numbers :(

brand new a6 2006 vette 630 miles.

all runs done in paddle mode-bone stock, 95 deg-dynojet

1. 4th gear pull 315/315
back to back
2. 4th gear pull 315/315

car sits for 10 min with ice on the intake and temp gets to 205.

3. 3rd gear pull 320/315

now is this normal for stock dyno numbers on an a6? I know it will get better when it gets more miles on it, but 80 hp loss from crank to wheels, wtf?

Sounds low. I hear 350 RWHP is normal. I pulled 313 on my 1997 C5 just before getting the LPE SC installed.

I don't think 350 RWHP is normal. I believe it's closer to 325-340.

Yeah it's a little low, I'm wondering how it would've dyno'd if iced down/allowed to cool but pulled while in 4th like the first two pulls as opposed to 3rd?

Some manuals might be in the 345 - 355 range but not automatics.

True, 15% - 18% is more the norm but 20% is not totally out of the accepted range...plus dyno variances and weather corrections etc.

320-330 for a cool A6 310-320 if she is hot I seem to remember that anything over 180 and it pulls 4 degrees of timing can anyone confirm?

My A6 picks up .1-.2 if she gets to cool down

Also, the 95 degree temps will make a huge difference to. The ice helps, but it won't completely alleviate heat soak. Don't sweat it too much.

With 120 miles I dynoed 335.8 HP at 6,369 RPM, and then 343.8 HP at 6,392 RPM after installing a Blackwing air filter package. The pulls were in 4th and it was last Jan. so we had no problem with heat. The shop was surprised, they said this was 10 to 15 HP more than they have been seeing for stock C6's. We did a couple of more pulls just to make sure and they were the same.

Mine ran 373.8hp and 369.4tq on a very hot and humid day. Actually, it was on the blacktop at Cruise In using a portable Dynojet. They left the AC on so I was robbed They said it was the best car with similar mods by 20. Better weather, a ported intake and a little luck and I am knockin' on 400s door

Default I have seen this too often!

Don't get caught up on Dyno #'s. What type of dyno machine was it, Mustang or Dynojet? There is a big difference 10+% between the two. After all my years around the dyno I don't think I have ever seen or heard one person say "thats more than I expected".

I haven't dyno'd my C6 nor do I plan on it (unless I'm getting tuning/programming done)...the only dyno I use is 1320 feet long with pretty lights on it.

I ran 334 with only a K&N inlet. Then I ran the second time and you could see a big dip at 3200 where it was pulling timing and only got 316. Take a look at your curve to see if there is a dip somewhere between 3000 and 4000 rpm.

Dyno #s are relative.

First off, 95 degree temps and a hot car kill power.

For instance, my HOT C6 Vert A4/3.15 ran a 12.99 and a 12.90 (both at 107mph) when I first got to the track with HOT coolant temps.

I let the car cool down and ran again and with no changes ran a 12.57@110.67.

That equates to a 30-40 horsepower gain (24-32rwhp gain).

That was in 50 degree temps.

A 400 horsepower automatic cooled down with normal temps should lose 18-20% to the wheells, so 320-330rwhp is the normal range.

Also, some dynos read high, some low, it is just a tool used for tuning.

I don't care if my car only pulls 300rwhp, it still runs 12.5s and that is the number that counts.

Hope this makes you feel a bit better,

Howard

duno numbers are everything, my car only puts down 338 rwhp and its ran 11.8's @ 116 with the mods in my sig. and there is a huge difference between dynos. i have seen mustang dyno pulls against dynojet numbers and sometimes they are 20-30 hp difference on a 400ish rwhp car.

take it to the track, thats where the real number counts.

I used to have a stone stock 1984 Z28 LG4 (150hp) 700R4 Auto 3.23. It didnt have enough power for traction to be a issue.

On a hot spring day with 500 mi (83* / 70% Humid / 360') - 16.7 @ 78 mph

On a cool autumn day with 30,000 mi (50* / 40% Humid / 360') - 15.6 @ 81 mph

I think that is way more gain than just the conditions can account for.

I would redyno after 2000 mi. Use a dynojet. A different one (if that was a dynojet). Some dynos are just stingy. Get your HP corrected to SAE.
