Ok, is it just me or is the biggest pain in the *** to install well? I'm about to throw these things in the trash can. Why in the hell would someone make such a cheap and easy item w/o a decent way to mount them? I give up for now unless someone has an easier way than dissasembling the front end of my car.
You might as well forget it. After fighting them for about 2 hours, I tossed them in the trash can. I ordered the GM side vents, went in like a charm and look as good as RaceMesh. OK. I obviously mean look better than RaceMesh.

That was exactly how I felt with them and I did file them in the trash can. I ordered the ones from Corvettes of Houston and had them in in about 45 minutes. They come with the adhesive on them and I had no problem getting them to stick. Here's a pic:
how much did you pay rgcarmack14? I like the GM ones but they are crazy expensive. Also would you guys say the gm and corvette of houston ones would match my chrome plated racemesh front grill?

I did wind up using the tape to hold them in place and also as a dam for the silicone that has them secured. So far so good. But they were definitely not the "easy" job I was led to believe for the install.

If you are going to trash them, I'll take them and give it a try or use then as templates to make my own out of some other interesting material. Just a thought...

Gee, you guys must be doing something wrong. Anything other than the Factory GM units (very expensive, but a bolt on) are a simple shape cut slightly oversized to ensure coverage of the fender duct opening, but they ALL are mounted with the same basic steps..........
1) Remove wheels.. 2) Remove Fender Liner.. 3) Pull the plastic air diverter panel away from inside of fender.. 4) PREP THE AREA FOR ADHESIVE.. 5) Place the insert over the opening (various attachment methods).. 6) Secure insert with adhesive(s)... 7) Put everything back together. DONE! Yes, it takes some time, but taking the time to do it right, the results are worth it.
My personal choice for aesthetic reasons are the RaceMesh inserts which they now offer in the same exact material as the GM ones (in three finishes) but MUCH less expensive. They are a smaller weave and they don't come apart as some of the larger opening sets have for some folks here. The RaceMesh "GM Size" are listed for under $70 I think... I could be wrong.

I think they were about $60 but I was impressed with the way they came. They really are solid. The racemesh fell apart when I was trying to install them but these arrived with the adhesive already on exactly where it needs to be. I took my hair dryer and got them really hot before putting them on. They stuck immeditately and have stayed in nicely even with washings. The GM ones are nice but outrageously priced in my opinion.

Well first my racemesh side grills all but fell appart on touching them. They actually have hot glue (or some other soft adhesive) at about 4 of the crosses on both peices holding it together, poorly at that. The racemesh also has no way to attach it easily on the inside of the car. The edges were very sharp and unfinished. Just not a quality product. If they had put the rubber surround like they did on the front grill, just smaller, it would be perfect. Then the adhesive would have something to grab /shrug.
Makes the car 2 seconds faster in the quarter mile. Just for looks, nothing more nothing less. The same reason people replace the rims, powder coat the calipers, change the spoiler/doors, interior ect.

But you are adding on weight so it will slow it down

I understand after talking the them that the new RaceMesh "GM Style/Size" cove grilles will not unweave like some of the previous larger mesh style size could. Looks like they have taken steps to make product improvements for us.
They also said that if they did put a rubber trim around the edge, then the mesh would not be flush against the opening and not look as good.
I personally feel that it is the best solution to the very high priced factory GM units. But to each his own.
