Default sqealing sound under light load

Does anyone know or have any experience with a squealing sound coming from the engine under light to moderate load? Starts as soon as the clutch is released and lasts up through 2 or 3000 rpm. It is not loud and sounds sort of like a belt, however it won't do it when in neutral by just revving the motor. I took it to the local dealer who told me that he has two other vettes on the lot and they both do it so they think it is normal. Inermittent sqealing isn't normal in my book, besides I just went for a ride in my friends car also a manual and his doesn't do it. Any thoughts, besides trying another dealership?

Hey Alex-
Just got back from the Santa Clarita Corvette Club meeting, enjoying the ride. Mine doesn't do that with 4500 miles on it now, but it may be an induction leak. I replaced my intake with a Halltech Stinger, and when I removed the large hose clamps on the factory unit, two of them were barely tight. Try tightening all of thje hose clamps a little.

Ohter than that, are you still grinning every time you get near it?

I know exactly what you're talking about. Get on the accelerator in 1st, 2nd or 3rd and hit the clutch to shift and you hear it just before the shift. But sometimes throughout more of 1st and 2nd and 3rd gear. And after the car has been driven about 5 to 10 miles or so it disappears, right? And like you say, if you put it in neutral and rev the engine it doesn't do it.

Mine will do it when it's cold outside. Been to the dealer twice and by the time I made the drive to the dealership, it had already stopped both times.

Back this past winter after taking it out of storage a couple times when it was just cold outside but no salt or slush down, it would do this for 6 or 8 miles and finally quieten down.

I have resorted to belt dressing with pretty good results. That combined with the warmer weather has made it almost inaudible. Check the archives and someone else had their belt tensioner replaced and that seemed to stop it.

And before anyone says "crank pulley" my belt is not shredding, my belt runs straight under idle, my guages behave themselves, and my crank pulley bolt shows no signs of backing out.

That's about it. It does seem to go away after the car warms up. Mine does it right after I release the clutch and give the engine some gas. The sound doesn't last long and it is not very loud. It is definitely a 1st, 2nd, 3rd thing. I thought about the belt dressing and might go that route. I have to go back to the dealer when my new ashtray lid and little rubber stops for the gas door come in so I will discuss it with them again then. I also have the z51 option, not that I think that has anything to do with it. If the dealer figures it out I will certainly let you know.

Please let me know. And yours is an '06 and does it, which further tells me that its not the crank pulley.

That's correct it is an 06 built on 12/7/05 though. It should be well clear of the crank pulley problem although that has crossed my mind.

With 25K miles on it, again I doubt its the crank pulley. If it was, its doubtful you would have gotten that many miles on it without it letting loose.

My guess is either the tensioner or the serpentine belt itself.
