Default 19" Drag Slicks

Do they make a drag slick to fit the 19" Z51 wheels? If not what is the next best tire that I can use and still keep the stock 19" wheels? Also what's the widest tire that will fit?

Thanks
Mike

Hoosier makes the A6 in a 315/40/19. I think it would fit on the wheel not sure on clearance though. It is quite a bit taller than stock.

Yeah that's a tall one, I know Hoosier makes a few 19" sizes, mostly for the Z06 widths but these are road racing/autocross tires, nothing in a drag radial...yet.

I think it would hook up fairly well with a 40 sidewall. I don't think there are any 19" DR's out.

Seems like most people buy 17" wheels and get some dedicated drag radials. 18" are on the way out, but 17 seems to be more common. I haven't heard of 19's, except for the above post.

What do you mean that 18s are on the way out? What about for people who have big brakes that need at least an 18 inch wheel?

Ok so everyone says that there are no 19" Drag radials! I know that the run flats are the worst for hooking up so what is the next best Tire?

If you want a drag slick or drag radial you'll have to go to an 18" wheel. If you check the tread wear rating you'll see that some 19" tires are stickier and the Supercar EMT's are right up there in ratings (when they are warm).

I don't think the 18" DRs are on the way out, in fact some 18" sizes from Mickey Thompson will become available in the coming months. I don't see BFG or Nitto dropping their 18s either.

There are some Michelins and Pirellis in the stock/near stock 19" sizes that might be a decent alternative to the Goodyears. There's BFG and Falken as well but not sure how much 'stickier' they'll be in a straight line.

I am planning to do this also. I had two fronts widened to 10.5 inches. I am waiting to get them back from the chrome shop. How do they look on the rear offset wise?

How much was the widening process for both rims, just curious?

And speaking of offset/backspacing, how did they set that up for the back when widening them?

http://www.weldcraftwheels.com/

There you go, a link with a pic of a widened wheel. They charged me 200 per wheel. Like I said I have not even seen the wheels yet, really don't even know for sure if they are going to fit.

Default Heating-autocross

I really could use some advice. I have a 98 C5 that I autocross. It is an automatic. I do shift it manually when I race. When I drive it hard and let it rev up to the revlimiter, my car heats up to appx 250. Any suggestions? Do I have to let the car shift itself? I notice that when I keep it in 2nd or 3rd it doesn't heat up-but of course then, I don't have the performance I'm used to? Please advise. Thanks

When I used to autocross my automatics (IROC Z28 350 and later a Mustang LX 5.0) I simply picked the one gear that I felt suited the course best and left it in there for the whole run. You will lose some time from not being in the perfect gear for some corners/some straights but overall I think you get some of that time back in not having to take your hand off the wheel or your concentration off the cones.
Being such short laps with plenty of cool down times between runs I wouldn't be all too concerned about tranny temps in an autocross situation...an auxiliary/bigger trans cooler will help too.

it's actually engine temp that's high. I sorta thought that the short time it runs, that it wasn't a big deal, but it is still awful hot to not be worrisome?

It is hot yes. Do you have a cooler temp (160 degree) thermostat with the fans set accordingly by any chance?
If not I would do that, maybe a coolant flush/refill and even try some Redline Water Wetter in your cooling system maybe.
Use a good quality synthetic motor oil as well (I'm sure you already are).
