Ater installing the K&N intake and not seeing any HP gains on the dyno I contacted K&N and asked them about their guaranteed 10 HP gain. The tech said they put one on an 06 and got the 10 hp gain. He said what my installer did wrong was not disconnecting the negative battery cable and letting it sit for 2 hours. He said this was imperative and the ECM would then reprogram after the installation. I am skeptical but anyone out there think the tech may be right? My installer does not agree but we decided to work it out when tuning becomes available for the a6.
Hmmmmmmmmm, lets see. We have real time sensors to include the MAF and TPS which feed the onboard computers and the air fuel mixture is adjusted hundreds of time per min. No matter what you put in the induction, the computer is going to compensate and adjust. Its not based on memory. Your tech is right. Think K&N is blowing smoke

Actually the K&N rep was right. What happens when you disconnect the ground cable and not for 2 hours is that the computer resets the LTFT's. So for a short time it will richen the fuel a little which coupled with an air intake you will see a little gain, same if you left the stock air cleaners in. However once you get about 20-50 miles on the car, the LTFT will update and you will lose your power gain. So who is right and who is wrong, I guess it is how each person looks at it, but personally I think it is a bogus way of advertising a product.
