I have seen crate engine kis for sale on the web based on the LS1 and LS6 (even LS7) using plug and play harnesses and ecus.
I own a VW Corrado and have an aim to a make 500BHP and a 200MPH car. A known route I could take with my engine (2.3lt V5) is to turbo it. 500BHP is possible but... it looks as though my engine has developed a fault and I'm getting bored trying to sort it out so am thinking a new engine conversion. But this time i want to go nuts and a 5.7lt V8 and rear wheel drive would make for an awsome street sleeper.
I know very very little about the 'vette engines so would like your advise on which would be the best engine to go for, for 500BHP? I'd like normally asperated and as high reving as possible (just cos its more fun to hear it screaming)
Should I buy a new engine kit, or go for a standard engine out of an older cheaper car and buy a tuning kit?
What transmission options are available/ transaxle or not. Manual only and 5-6 speed please.
Also whats the basic difference between LS1 LS6 and LS7???
If you put a V-8 in it,it'll still handle like a brick. Besides, who wants a sleeper? They don't do anything right! Just get a C6 and be done with it.
Actually no,don't try to put a V-8 in your VW. The frame probably won't take the torque. How do you spell Speidel?
LS7 is the expensive way to go. Find a used LS6 or LS2. They're both about 400hp and use the same cylinder head. LS2 is a 6.0L vs 5.7L for the LS1/LS6. That helps give the LS2 has a better torque curve, but slightly lower hp peak. LS6 is probably the way to go due to availability and price. If you really want 500hp, then add a blower or a good head + cam package with tuning by a reputable vette tuner. But that will drive up costs considerately. If you do a head/cam, then you could start with an LS1 if you find a good price on one. I believe the bottom end on a LS1 and LS6 are the same.
