Difficult??? Maybe not, but they do not disclose exactly what they remove so technically you could remove plastic all day with no gains. I know they are very thin to begin with....One slip and you need a new one
I paid a lot less than you are quoting the price to be. I'd rather give someone else the responsibility of not turning an intake into a worthless piece of plastic. If they mess it up, I get anew one on their dime. Ask yourself, is it worth the risk?
Very true... best price I've seen for a new LS2 intake is $260 from Fred Beans. It's a fairly expensive learning curve unless you've been working with intakes for a few years and got the technique and theory down solid.
1) is it difficult to remove?
2) is cleaning-up the casting the same as the porting several tuners offer for ~$250?
Thanks.
I could certainly be done yourself if you know what you're doing, but just cleaning up the flashing isn't going to get you near a professional job. The ports measure 10%+ larger after porting. Like mentioned above, the ports are built from multiple layers of plastic, and the individual layers get thin in spots. Grind too much in one spot and you'll have a piece fall off that will leave a rough, poor flowing section. You have to grind the side layers until they are paper thin to get the best flow (enough that the seams are gone completely in some areas, the halves are no longer bonded together).
Hopefully, competition will bring the price down in the future. I sold my stock intake on eBay for $210 to recoup some costs.
Isn't Fast working on an intake that does not require modifiying the fire wall?
Last month, FAST told me that an LS2 specific manifold isn't even on their radar. Don't hold your breath, they have no plans. They referred me to the LPE install kit.
