Default Will Callaway Honker Affect Cooling Performance?

I have heard of this as being a possible problem using the Callaway Honker CAI. Is there any merit to this? Anybody have any real world testing? I am contemplating going with the Callaway, but I am concerned about having cooling problems.

Thanks!
Matt

these style of intake are stealing air from the radiator...but i think it is marginal....good luck.

YES, it will aid the cooling of the engine (as any other true CIA's should as well). Personally I have noticed a difference in cooling. After running the engine Hard, the oil temps drop quite rapidly. I have noticed oil temps go from 248* and drop to 220* within minutes. A vast improvement over stock.

P.S. I do have the honker and wow am I impressed with it's performance.

how does taking away some of the air that is meant for the radiator aids cooling? sure, the trade off is a little "ram air" / cooler air for the intake and i think it is worth it....but how does this "stealing air" aids radiator cooling?

Because the air the engine inhales from the radiator cavity is so minimal, it shouldn't even be mentioned.

It's not so much 'Ram Air' as it is Cool Air (as labled a CIA-cold air intake), that helps to cool the engine. Instead of injesting 240* air from the engine compartment, it only intakes the ambiant air from outside (i.e. 70* or 90*). It's that difference that contributes to the engine cooling and pays good dividends.

test driver, i had personally collected some data on the iat # with the none mod radiator shoud intake system.....the # are actually always near the ambiant air temp unless you are sitting there ideling for a while....i don't have a bottom feeder intake system so i don't have any data on this...but bretthunter has all the data on the bottom feeder....if i remember his data correctly...as long as the car is moving all the air are ambiant...but if the car is sitting around ideling the bottom feeder actually has higher iat # than none bottom feeder, it is probably pulling in air that is around the hot radiator....do you have a scanner that you can collect some data?

I'll confirm these findings. Steve (cbrf4i1) has collected data on his car and then on mine and both show if you are moving even the stock inlets get temps around 2 degrees above ambient.

So, then is it really worth spending close to $400 for an aftermarket air intake? Now I am not sure if I am going to have anything installed.

it is still worth doing...both glennh and i are running k & n (all the non bottom feeders are pretty much the same) with mod halltech cai for more cooler air....i personally made a cover on both sides to kept the incoming air in the air filter area instead of flowing down and out by the headers. what ever intake you go with should get you some hp/tq....
