After having the car shut down to 4 cylinders and running like complete crap, the dealership finally figured out what it was. They had to install a new Throttle Body! They are now working on the "snap, popple, crack" roof. They replaced the weather stripping and the sound didn't go away. Now they are ordering, the back ordered, roof...2 weeks! They also took apart the rattling door and found there were 2 screws at the bottom! Now they are trying to figure out why the air conditioning and stereo will randomly not turn on! I can't wait to get her back, I am sick of driving this Malibu!
Is there any aftermarket throttle bodies out there? I definately don't want to go through this again!
The throttle body should have been the first thing they checked. If it is obstructed, wont open or unplugged, the engine will run in reduced power mode to prevent damage since there is not enough air to burn the fuel.
Maybe he had a bad motor in the thottle body, or loose connection?
Did they say what was wrong with the throttle body?
Well, the TPS was defective in the Throttle Body. I guess it was telling the engine that it was getting less air then it was actually getting, causing it to shut down the cylinders. They said they were giving 50% throttle and the computer was reading 20%.
The roof ended up being defective. It just so happens that a new roof came in today and it is off at paint and should be ready tomorrow afternoon.
