I'm trying to change my clutch out today (on jackstands!) and have everything removed except for the bellhousing on the back of the engine. I've removed all of the bolts, the bellhousing is loose, but it doesn't have enough room to move back to come off. The engine is lowered as far as it will go on the back, still not enough room.
Whatever GM designer did this should have his a$$ kicked. Not only were the bolts nearly impossible to access, but the C6 has a stupid 1-piece bellhousing. The C5 had a two-piece unit, and only the bottom had to come off for clutch swaps.
I did one last week. We had it on the lift and had the motor all the way leaned back onto the firewall. The very top bolt was a bitch to get out. Once the motor was all the way back it came out. So I'm no help for you.
damn, that means I have to remove the blower. Sure is alot of work to replace a clutch in these cars, GM should have put them in the REAR of the car with the tranny.
Textralia (Australian version) clutch. Supposed to be good for 650 hp with a soft pedal feel. My stock clutch never slipped, but it probably wouldn't last long with 550 rwhp.
not really. I already got all of the bolts out, there just wasn't enough room to slip the bellhousing itself off of the back of the engine without it running into the tranny tunnel. I'll have to remove the blower and tilt the engine back as far as it will go I suppose.
Stupid design, you can tell they didn't have "service" in mind when they designed this bellhousing. I guess GM figured clutches would never wear out. lame!
