Default Adding HUD?

I did a search but came away with no definitive answer. Can the parts be bought to add the HUD to the C6? Are the harnesses and software in place to accomodate the hardware, if added? I know the windshield is different, but that is supposedly a minor issue. Anyone checked into this?

I think you would loose less money by selling your current C6 and buying another with the option.

Default I have followed a couple of threads...

And it seems that this is not a doable project at the time, due to certain resistors or something not being inline in the wiring harness.

Minor if you consider the $1000+ it costs for the HUD specific windshield.

There's someone on here who is doing a HUD add on. Hopefully they'll chime in with their results.

Someone did it and posted pictures and it was ugly. The whole dash had to come out and wiring harnesses had to be installed, but first you had to replace other wiring harnesses. With all the electrical issues that the C6 has, I would not under take this project because if you have "issues" they will put the ball in your court and wash their hands of the problems.

IT seems that it would be cost prohibitive to do this but
I am sure it can be done but would be $$$
I have seen the hud setup with harness on ebay from a few smashed up c6s for under $1000
but keep in mind that you will need to replace the windshield for it to function properly

NO,no,no,no you will NOT need to replace the windshield. I have added HUD to 2 cars (a 99 Grand Prix GTP and a 99 C5) that did not need new windshields and they worked FINE.

Can someone post a link? I have tried searching but found nothing so far. I'm glad that this is turning the corner, C5 guys have been doing it with great success for years.

I've heard this many times when C5s were converted to HUD. I wonder why GM still insists on installing a "special" windshield. What does a HUD windshield do that a non HUD windshield doesn't do?

According to the local service manager, it would cost $3500 to install so I did not do it. This is also the same service manager that said no corvette roofs have blown off.

How about keeping this thread on topic with real/accurate information and keeping the opinions and conjecture to yourselves.

What a great idea! Thanks for the reminder C6400hp.

Hopefully someone who has tried this will speak up, or if anyone can point to the thread with the pic of the dash or remember who did it, please do so.

Default Me Too.....

I can dispel one un-truth.. the dash in my '05 is pre-cut for the HUD, contrary to what was posted either in this or one of the other threads concerning this topic !

Default Harness Headaches

I can not answer your question with a definitive answer, but can offer this one bit of information. I wanted to change-out my rearview mirror only. Take the stock no frills model and add the nice feature of auto dimming. Could not be done. I contacted the plant in B.G. and asked if the little plug/harness that goes into the back of the mirror had the right wires to allow the up grade and after taking my VIN and investigating, they said no.

You might think that all wiring harnesses and looms would be the same, but in GM's wisdom, not so. All I'm saying is to do a lot of homework before you dive into your dash, you may find yourself deeper than what it's worth, more than a fair share of bugs to track down and your car out of service for the time it takes to get things put back together. Is it really worth it? Good luck.
