Default rear end grinding continues

well I tried the amsoil 75w-90 extreme duty gear oil in the noisy rear and it actually made the grinding worst. The instructions claim the friction modifier is already added but I question that. Quess it goes to the dealer tomorrow. I should have kept my c5.

Without telling my buddy at work...i drove in and out of the parking lot...and they notice the grinding sound.

Suggest you take your service writer or tech for a ride and demo the noise for them personally. The ride-along eliminates confusion and establishes clear communication.

wratran,
Same thing here, but I have dropped it off twice. Number 3 is scheduled for monday.

Replacing the fluid did quiet it for awhile.

Sorry to hear about your continued diff problems. But I will confirm that the AMSOIL Severe Gear 75w90 does come with friction modifier pre-mixed in. Been using that fluid in my C5 Z06 for years without additional modifier with no diff chatter.

I added 4oz of the GM friction modifier and the noise is gone. Maybe the amsoil has some in it but in my case it wasn't enough. I'm also not nieve enough to believe this is the permanent fix. A car that was perfectly quiet until 2 days ago 4800 miles and replacing the synthetic gear oil and additive fixes it doesn't sound right. Maybe the friction modifier doesn't perform well with synthetic oils overtime.

I don't think that is it. I've been following all the C6 diff threads with interest as I'm considering buying one for my new daily driver. I am getting the impression that the C6 diff clutch packs just perform differently than those in the C5 and that they may need more friction modifier than those in the C5. Maybe they use different material?

Here is the bulletin #pip3559, fluid replacement first, but many times the clutch packs will need to be replaced also. The noise can come and go, may not be there all the time. This bulletin is in the preliminary bulletin section of S.I.(service information). This is NOT uncommon for Vettes to do, but they should be able to take care of it for you

Happened to me, changed fluid first and then the clutch packs been fine ever since, that was 30K miles ago. The bulletin gives the procedure.
