ambient air sensor & ecm
could someone that has access to the ecm be able to tell me how much of a part the 'ambient air temp sensor' has in the settings used by the computer. how much of a part does knowing the ambient air temp play in the fuel mixture, timing, etc.
what are the side effects of disconnecting the ambient air temp sensor.
Just unhooking the sensor will probably trip a CEL. There were kits for the C4 Corvettes that would relocate the sensor to a cooler part of the air intake stream. The intent was either to keep the ECM from pulling timing or to keep the fuel mixture on the rich side. I used it on my '96 but don't know how effective the mod ever was.

i am assuming when you say "ambient air temp" sensor, you are referring to that sensor just behind the front grill on the passage side. if that is the one that your are referring to, i am 99.99% certain the data from that isn't use by the ecm to make fuel trim mixture. with it unplug your ac / heater will not work right, and may get a cel also. if you are referring to the iat, now you can't unplug that, it is part of your maf sensor and yes it is used by the ecm.

yes, that's the one...a/c still works, maybe not as good as it could though...... the tech forgot to remount it when he replaced the shround during the vararam install.
if it played a part in fuel trim it would be pretty easy to fool the computer using that sensor, but since it's not used i don't need to worry about any engine damage occuring as a result of no sensor, while we wait for the order.
