I am installing a set of SS brake lines and the passenger rear won't thread into the new SS brake line. I can get it to just start, then it pops out when I try to tighten it down. I tried the SS line on one of the other corners and it goes on fine. I then pulled off one of the installed SS lines and tried it on the passenger rear and the same thing happened. The problem seems to be the hard line fitting on the passenger rear. Upon close inspection, I see no damage of the threads. This fitting was a little more difficult to remove than the others when I pulled off the factory lines. What should I try ??? Would a little teflon tape help things go together??
Thanks in advance.
I wouldn't use any tape/etc anywhere on brake or fuel lines. Does the original line go back on? Might try, as it might clean the threads if there is slight damage.
I had this problem with 2 lines too, and yes the threads appear fine. Reality is that the threads on that hard line fitting are damaged. Go out and get a die to repair them and you'll be good to go. I'll be getting home soon, then I'll go find the die I used and let you know what size it is.
Taps and dies are used to repair threads. They are basically the same shape as the bolt/hole, only made out of a harder metal, and have sharp edges so that they cut away the parts that are damaged. You need a die since they cut external threads. Here's some pics... http://www.brandsonsale.com/tap-die-sets.html
You can get sets at many hardware stores and Sears has them too. The problem is that M10 x 1 is an uncommon size, so when I went looking for one, only the very big and expensive sets had it. I went to a specialty hardware store that sells all kinds of strange bolts, fasteners, and tools. They had individual dies for sale so I only had to buy the size I needed.
