Default Wheels for Drag Radials

I'm looking for a 17 x 11 wheel to run drag radials on for my C6.

Will the rear 17x11 of a C4 ZR1 fit on the rear of a stock C6 Z51?

Any other 17" wheels availble to run a 315 BFG 17" that will fit on a C6?

Thanks!

Default What I'm using....

Is a set of 17" C5 wagon wheels with 275-45-17 M/T E/T Streets. They work extremly well, and clear my Z51 brakes. I wanted as short a tire as I could go with for avalibility reasons, and for the slight gearing advantage !

That is some very good info. I did not realize 17" wagon wheels would fit on a C6.

I have widened some OEM C6 18" fronts and plan to run BFG 295/35/18's. But I realize why you guys want the 17's for the taller sidewall and flex.

Thanks for the post. I have a set of 315 BFG DR in 17" that I want to use. I don't think a 9.5" wide wheel will work w/the 315. I'm pretty sure I need an 11" wheel.

Does anyone know if the rears off of the C4 ZR1 wheels will work?

Thanks!

Plenty of C5Z06 owners have run 315.35.17 BFG DRs on C5Z fronts (9.5 x 17). Perhaps the best known guy posted as Power Shifter. With that tire combo, he cranked out mid-to-hgh 1.6x 60'. Those that say the combo won't work are incorrect.

I have test fit that wheel on the rear of my C6Z and it fits OK, provided tape weight are not used on the extreme outside edge of the inner wheel by the spokes (where they'd hit the caliper). So the wheel should fix fine on a C6 with its slightly smaller rear rotors.

My 295/35/18's BFG DR's finally arrived. I need to order some tire sensors now and I am in like flint. I really don't think it will make me any faster but I want to save my runflats for everyday driving.

Why put tire pressure sensors in them?

If you do, then once you drop the rear pressure below 25 at the track, you will have to start clearing warning messages for LR-Low AND RR-Low. That gets distracting and constitute two more things you have to do before staging. And those messages pop to the top of the DIC above TC-Off or Competitive Driving.

My 2006 Z does not complain about running rear wheels without pressure sensors.

Same issue if you put more than 42 pounds in the fronts. Two warning messages LF-High Pressure and RF-High Pressure. So I compromised and run 42 psi in the fronts.

Off the subject a little bit but when are they going to come out with drag radials that fit the 19" stock Z51 rims?

Thanks

Don't hold your breath. The market for 18" is much larger and the selection there is still skimpy.

Just curious--What size rims will they go on.
I guess they are too wide for the front C6 rims.

Ok, well for Ranger, I really don't run below 25 anyway. I sort of like having the sensor in there so I can see the tire pressure. There are some guys that have went into limp mode or what ever it is called from no sensors after one hour. To be honest Ranger I don't need them for traction, I did not want to burn up my runflats is the main reason I bought them, so the low pressure is not needed. I don't bother with the fronts, I know I may get a little faster ET with 42 but not enough for me to worry about for bracket racing. Thank you for the advice though, always appreciate your comments.

Wayne88, I had some OEM fronts widened to 18x10.5 inches. Do a search on widened wheels and you will see the thread talking about it.

If you have not tested that tire wheel combo yet how do you know what psi will work the best?

I thought one reason to run lower psi was to keep the rear end in one piece? or at least try

It does not spin with runflats. I could run 50 lbs in them and not spin. I run + 2 second 60 foots so the rear end is probably safe.

I launch mine at 2k at the track if the tires are not warm they spin....

about 1 in 4 passes it will wheel hop, IMO the lower tire psi will help keep the wheel hop down.

I cut 1.99 60's best et was 12.85 at 110 with a DA of 3000
Stock 1lt A6 stripper 3300 race weight

do you turn TC and AH off?
what et and mph?

My best so far was a 12.85. I would say my race weight is around 3570. With my son and I, the cooler, my loyd mats, lab top computer and some other stuff like helmets. But I really am not trying to set my best time I am just into consistency. I like going faster of course. Usually when I want to see how fast it really is I wait till fall strip it down and let my skinny cousin run it.

I run in comp mode, 12.85 at 111 has been my best, it will probably run a 12.5 in the fall.

Thanks for the info. I'll get a pair of the wheels for the fall when I make my next trip to the drags.

Are you near Kilkare?

You should turn AH off and set the record in the fall Kilkare is one fast track! worth at least .2-.3

My AH is not slowing me up. I run straight,

I had to look Kilkare up. In Xenia, 1.5 hours or so away. I went on the Great Ohio By cycle Adventure this summer and that is where we start and ended. Maybe I will make a trip down some time. Is that where you race? What is their weeknight bracket race.

I am about 20 minutes from Norwalk and Dragway 42, about right in the middle. Most of the time I go to Norwalk. Occasionally it will be raining in Norwalk and not at 42 so I go there.

Norwalk on a Wednesday night is a blast.

No I live in Vegas so I get to run at 2,200 feet with higher DA's 3,000-5,000 most of the time

I am from Minnesota and have run in MN, ND, IA, WI, IL, KC I miss the air my stock turbo syclone ran 12.4-12.5 at all the above... we loose .3-.5 out here in Vegas.

Kilkare is known to be a fast track not sure if its the track or the timing system.... your car may not really be as that fast but you could get a great timeslip!

I know they get some great air!

I'll sell you mine with ET Streets. They are 17X9.5 front C5 Z06 rims. Just as Ranger recommended.
They still have at least 50-60 pases left on them. I ran them mainly with my C5, I'd estimate 30 passes with C5 and 3 with the C6. They wont match your stock wheels and one is beat up around the center due to a broken sheel stud but I still run them all the time. They are Z06 chrome wheels. Let me know if you or anyone is interested, below is a pic of how they look...and hook
