Their advantage over a new paper filter is negligible. I doubt there would be any measurable HP gain. However, they do not lose any appreciable flow as they get dirty, unlike the paper filter, that flow less and less as it get dirty. Their biggest advantage is that they are cleanable and reusable.
Some here state that the stock intake is fairly well designed and there is little advantage to swapping out the whole intake for an aftermarket piece. Opinions vary.
What he said!!You really won't get a H.P. gain and in fact, per GM,if the oil screws up the maf you're on your own for a fix!!They released a notice last year sometime(or even earlier than that) about air filter oil getting into the maf. Also, somebody on here posted some good research info on the filter that showed it actually hindered flow after a while.SO,in the end it boils down to personal preference!!!I actually bought 2 for my 05 and never put them in!!
I have them on mine. I have always put K&N filters in every GM vehicle I have owned. Not sure if there is a HP gain but I have never had a problem with them.
I had K&N in my S-Type simply because it was VERY difficult to find a filter for the thing. I could service with no hassle. Especially in backwater town I live in. That said, I don't think any of these things help HP other than at wide open throttle, and how often is that the case while you're driving around. At the track, sure you may see some slight gain, but normal every day driving? Think about it, throttle blade 15% open, any filter (even a dirty paper one) can keep up with that. IF, and its a big IF, these things did as advertised the big 3 would have one in every car they sell. They could advertise more HP and it would help them with the CAFE standard.
