Default Bad Clutch? / Need Some Advice

Hey Guy's,

I just bought a new C6 Z51 (900 miles on car) and there seems to be something wrong with my clutch. I'm not sure it's the clutch and here is where I need some help/advice. When I'm driving at slow speeds10mph or less and I'm about to come to a stop, I push the clutch in and the car actually jerks as if the clutch was not disengaging correctly. It doesn't happen every time but most of the time. I left the car at the dealership, and as usual, they couldn't duplicate the problem. I went back and went on a test drive to show them the problem. The dealership kept the car for two days and said they could not figure out what was wrong with the car or if there was anything wrong with it. I picked it back up today and I'm stuck with the car having the problem.

Are any of you experiencing the same problems? If so, any idea of what the problem is? Has anyone had this issue and received a fix from the dealership?

Appreciate the help.

Mine does that if I push the clutch in fast. I found that if I push the clutch in a little slower when I am going slower than 10 mph it does not jerk at all.

When you re-engage your clutch, does it start to engage very soon off the floorboard?
Many people complain of just the opposite and the clutch engages for them way back on its swing. If you reduce the clutch throw it helps this problem. But if you go too far and reduce the throw too much, the clutch might not completely disengage, and may start acting like your problem.

Don't know if this is it but it is worth a shot. See if your VIN is in the range.
Year: 2006
VIN: From 65115878 to 65121354

TSB - Customer Satisfaction - Engine Flywheel/Clutch Interference #06523C - (05/02/2006)

EQUIPPED WITH 6.0L V8 (RPO LS2 - VIN U) OR 7.0L V8 (RPO LS7 - VIN E) ENGINE AND 6-SPEED (RPO MM6 or MZ6) MANUAL TRANSMISSION

Condition
Certain 2006 Chevrolet Corvette model vehicles equipped with 6.0L V8 (RPO LS2 - VIN U) or 7.0L V8 (RPO LS7 - VIN E) engine and manual transmission may have a condition in which the flywheel may have been incorrectly machined, resulting in insufficient clearance for clutch cover self adjustment, reducing clutch life.
This program will expire on March 31, 2007.

Mine engages low, which is fine as I have no problem with disengaging. One thing I've noticed, maybe similar to what you describe, maybe not: when pushing in the clutch at slow speeds to engage 1st, the engine revs up. Nothing to do with clutch being disengaged, but a noticable increase in revs. No problems with it doing this, but unusual ime.

I had the problem where I couldn't tell when it would engage or dis engage. The service manager took it for a ride but stalled it three times before he got it out of the parking lot. I paid the difference and had a Z06 clutch assembly put in, end of problem.

Whiterock1, it sounds like you may be waiting too long to disengage the clutch, and dragging the engine speed down below it's idle speed. This would cause the engine speed to rebound back to idle speed when the clutch is disengaged. If you are stopping quickly, you could be doing this without realizing it. The owner's manual says to downshift/disengage the clutch when your rpm drops to 900 rpm.

blacksix, it sounds like your Z51 clutch is behaving normally compared to mine. Engagement starts right off the floor, but I get some shuddering when attempting to start slowly up an incline. I can reduce the problem by keeping the rpm up, but sometimes it's just there. I can live with this idiosyncracy...I could not live with variable and touchy engagement at the top of the travel. I've never seen a production car with so much variability in the clutches.

Edit: oops...blacksix, I reread your post...No, that doesn't sound right; mine doesn't do that...See my response above to Whiterock1 as a possible reason

I thought it was normal for the driveshaft to shudder or something. I have what you describe as well. Disengaging the clutch at low speed makes a shuddering sound, something not smooth. I think it happens mostly when cold, but maybe it's always. I guess I have become used to it doing that, but I do remember one day long time ago when I first started to notice it, so maybe there was a time when the car didn't shudder.
