Default Bullets or Muffler Delete - Any Difference in Performance or Sound???

If you just cut out the mufflers and welded in two pieces of straight pipe, would it sound any different than the Bullets?

Would it cost any performance by removing the mufflers instead of going with Bullets?

It just kills me to spend $1000 for Bullets if this could be accomplished.

I had Bullets on my 2005 Vert A4 and swapped them for Magnaflows to keep my wife happy.

When I mentioned the Bullets for my C6 manual coupe my wife did not look happy.

Other choices are a NEW Flowmaster catback when the 4 tip version comes out or a used Borla Stinger, Bullet, or Corsa Sport set-up.

I have also though about welding up two Magnaflow mufflers, but I hate to have two cars that sound the same.

The flows (delta 50's) are too mellow. Corsa sounds like a ferrari. Borla Stingers sound what the vette should have been stock. And the Bullets are just awesome. Anything but stock! Someone mentioned cutting off the mufflers and replace them with flowmaster delta 10's, sounds like the bullets. At this point trying to stay away from welding.

Just go to a custom shop and have an inline resonator put in place of the mufflers.

I found a couple clips on youtube.com of a C6 with LG headers, hi-flo cats, and Corsa sports....

It is the MEANEST sounding car I have ever heard

Do a search on you tube for Corsa Sport.

The bullets will sound a little deeper and better. The resonator makes them produce a less "gurgly" sound then straight pipes.

I want the deep and gurgly. I'm just not sure how to achieve it yet. Have not found the right sound bite. Not sure if I'll ahve to do a cam along with the exhaust to get what I'm looking for.

had the muffler delete on my 98 c5 & 01 zo6(lt's & no cats-224 cam)-sounds awesome at wide open- but just loud. on my c6 i'm going with the bullets i want a really loud, deep and powerful sounding tone. covettes of houston has the bullets for 800. cutting the muffs, addiding straight pipes with tips is about 200. 600 xtra for the tone i want on a 60k vette is worth it. my 2 cents.

12oh -

The Bullets are DEEP for sure.
I just don't know if I want to try them again.
My wife couldn't handle the DRONE on my C6 A4, I don't want to make the same mistake again, but I am tempted.

Does cutting off the mufflers give off that same BASSY DRONE the Bullets did or is it more high pitched.

In fact, does it even sound good, or just loud???

WOW! The car in that clip sounds great! Would just the Corsa sports have the same sound, or are the headers and cats making a big difference?

I am sure the headers and hi-flo cats make a huge difference.

But, it does sound MEAN!

Cut the mufflers out and do the straight pipe first. You may like it. Personally I have Borls Stingers/Sports and left the "H" pipe in. It brubles on deceleration. I love that sound.

It is tempting to just cut the mufflers out, but I am sure it would be ungodly LOUD with headers.

I think I did about what you are asking. I cut open the muffflers and remover EVERYTHING from the inside, essentially they are straight pipes. The sound is mildly louder, nowhere near as loud as the bullets, which are obnoxious. I may be able to give them or sell them cheap to you. Like $50, for our pain and suffering while cutting and welding. I have a sound clip if you want it. And I only live in Allentown.

Dave -

$50 sounds fair.
Is it just the mufflers or the whole catback?

I might be buying a set of Corsa Sports tonight, if not I'll call you tomorrow, yes I have your #.

Is there any drone with your set-up???

I'm kicking myself, when I moved my business I threw out my complete stock system from my 2005 C6 Vert, h-pipe and catback

Who new I would be buying another C6?

hmm, seems like a good financial alternative. I would love to hear a soound clip. How did you cut the mufflers from top or side?
Thanks,
Gene
