Just bought an 07 Black on black coupe, automatic, L3, nav, chrome wheels, Z51.
During the first few miles the gears were showing on de DIC when using the paddle shifts and on the heads up display also.
Now the gears only show on the heads up display and not on the DIC, does anybody knows how to make them show on the DIC?
Mine's a 2006 with HUD, when i use the paddles the gear is always shown on the HUD, never on the DIC. That's the correct situation for a 2006, not sure about a 2007.

I don't have HUD on my '06 A6 so the DIC is the only display for what gear I'm in.
It should come up there automatically once you put it in 'S' and hit the paddles or the buttons but where it gets tricky is if you turn off the traction control or check some of your gages as well, that's when the gear selection display disappears.
I think all you need to do then is hit one of the DIC buttons on the right and it should bring it back.
On my 07 with nav, the only time I noticed gear selection showed in the dic was when the HUD was displaying nav directions. As soon as the HUD display went back to MPH/RPM, the gear indicator in the dic disappeared. I like it showing in the HUD better anyway.

Oh, or maybe it's just different depending on whether or not one has Nav possibly.
I read someone here complaing their manual trannsmission equipped car gave a depress brake to start message that only an automatic equipped car should get.
Software can cause some pretty strange stuff to happen.
"When HUD is displaying the turn-by-turn guidance
information, the vehicle’s shift lever gear will not
display in the HUD. The gear will display on
the Driver Information Center (DIC) screen."
