Default Check fuel system warning?

Hello,
I just purchased a 2005 Victory Red C6. I had a 1999 C5 hardtop that I traded in 2 years ago, but the Vette called me back. Question. My wife and I were on a road trip cruising at about 65-70 MPH with a half tank of gas, when all of a sudden, the gas guage dropped to 0 and the message center displayed the message: check fuel system (something like that), then would pop back to 1/2 a tank. It did this off and on for the rest of the trip home, roughly about 30 minutes. Has anyone else have this happen to them? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, a very common issue (Bulletin has been issued). 90% of the fixes are a re-program of the ECM, but a few cases are a bad fuel sender card which requires dropping the gas tank...not a big deal, but labor intensive.

I'm assuming you still have warranty, so get it to a dealer and have them fix you up.

Same thing happened to me. GM had posted bulletins in mid-05' about this problem. It involves replacing the fuel cards in the fuel pumps in each of the two fuel cells. The irradic fuel guage performace is caused by a defective coating covering the cards. The repair involved removal of the fuel tanks. This problem has also shown up in the two seater cadillac with the 6.0. Not a horrible fix if you have a good dealer to fix it. -Raffi

Common problem in the 05 model year and it was corrected around 4/1/05. Mine required the left tank to be removed and the card replaced. It took about 5 hours. Some are lucky and just a software upgrade is all that's required.
