I have a 69 427/AT. The car runs great when it's cold but when it warms up it won't idle in gear very well and it hesitates when you accel from a stop. However, when cruising and the engine is above 1500 it runs good and accels ok. I have changed the wires, plugs, new points, resealed the intake manifold and have reset the valves. Timing is set at 8 degrees.
I have suspected the carb for some time, can't seem to get it to idle and the airbleeds have no effect on the idle rpm when they are turned in . I looked up the carb number on the internet and found that the carb belongs to a 73 350 smogger engine. So the big questions is the the root of my problems. Any ideas/thoughts. I have come across a qjet from a 68 396 engine will this carb work well on my engine?
I just sold a 70 big block and it had a Holley 750 cfm on it. It was very easy to adjust. It sounds like your carb is too small for the 427 and also may need some work, such as disassembly and cleaning. The stumble on acceleration could be the accelerator pump.
