6 month old, new battery. Car garaged for 4 days. Shut down correctly.
Not reliable, I just wanted to jump in it and go play golf. To my dismay,
DBS.
My only gripe with the C6, DBS, I can't freaking believe it.
What's the fix?
You say 6 months old car, but your profile says '05.
So I still assume it's an '05 shifter?
There is something coming out real soon from GM to fix DBS.
It's either a software fix or a different BCM module upgrade or version.
And it sounds like it will be the real thing.
It probably will also eliminate the need for the shift to reverse on shut down requirement, and possibly even the steering lock.
Most who have had DBS have gotten the priority start thing and hooked it up and in most cases fixed the issue.
" fixed the issue" **Should read, PUT ON A BANDAID. **No fix, but a work around GMs big F**K UP
I talked to some GM people at Carlisle, there is possibly some light at the end of the tunnel on this issue
Hey Dave, sorry I missed you out there!I got sick Saturday p.m. and ended up in the room till Sunday morning.
Sick so far from home no fun
Had a good time at Carlisle, saw lots from this area,+ possibly some good news by a engineer I kinda know from many visits to Carlisle (DBS stuff)
Hopeing to go to the Vette wash and show on Sunday ( 09 10) at Hadley

The car is an '05 MN6. The battery is a 6 month old AC/Delco Professional with a 6 year rating.
Until you replace the crap AC/Delco battery in your car with a real battery such as an Optima, you will continue to have start up problems of unknown origin/reason.
Put a decent battery in your car and there is a good chance that your dead battery woes will disappear as quickly as they showed up.

You believe these guys? They are ones that said there wasn't an issue. 05 manuals and 06 automatics both have DBS issues. People don't want to beleive me on the 06 auto, but trust me a module in the ECM stays on even when you turn off the car, sometime. That's what makes DBS so great, you never know when it will strike.

If the battery and charging system check out as normal, then a prioritystart module would make the most sense and give you good security until the new upgrade comes out.

I thought GM would have reliable batteries. I had faith, I am proven wrong.
I'll put in an Optima. WTF?

I never heard of that. Where can I get one and who installs it?

Thanks.
Real simple...Goggle "Priority Start"...lots of places sell 'em on-line. I bought one a bit over a month ago. Install is a DIY and real painless. Should run you about $70 w/shipping.

prioritystart.com or do a search on the forum.
Many many here with '05 shifter use one and swear by it.
It may just be a kludge, but it works.
It probably should be std on any car.
If your battery drops below a certain voltage, it cuts everything off.
You come out to a dead car, but you get in using your emergency key over the rear license plate and open the hatch. Pull the door opening ripcord back there. Then get in through the drivers door and push in the cigarette lighter to restart the battery. Start the car and reset your window indexing and memory settings. You're good to go....
Thanks to you Corvette guys for this info. I just took charge of my deceased father's '06 Corvette. Dead battery, and no apparent way to get in to charge it. The local (Tulsa) Chevy dealer wanted to tow it to his shop to fix it. (Whaaaat???)
Thanks to this forum I learned about the secret door-opening rip cord and the secret trunk opening key slot. Did I mention that the owner's manual was locked in the car? :-)
Anyway, I got it charged so now I can sell it. Too bad, a nearly new (600 mi) Corvette, but dad is gone and I can't afford to keep it. So, thanks guys! My dad can RIP. -Dion
