What a PITA. I tried to do what someone else on the forum suggested by trimming the plastic off the starter. I still couldn't get the headers in on the passanger side, so I had to take the starter off. The driver side was pretty easy to install. I did have one major problem though. I had my exhuast installed at West Coast Corvettes and they welded the clamps from the H pipe to the exhuast pipes. It took me about a hour to cut the weld without ruining the pipes.
Other then all that the sound is great. With a small rev of the engine I set off my girlfriends car alarm. I'll be tightening the bolts today after doing the heat cycle last night. I'll try to get video on here later today of the sound.
Hey, what happened to the video showing these headers being installed? The guy just inserted each side and then said "BOOM!, that's all there is too it!" I hate it when you have to start removing parts. I had to grind the aluminum lug next to the starter to get my Stainless Works installed on my 01 Z28. But man, the LG's just went right up into place with hardly any wiggling at all and I didn't have to trim any pieces.
How do you like these headers? They were my second choice behind the LG's. They look like a really nice quality header!
I installed my AHRs in my garage with jackstands while I was watching an eight year old. It took me about 4 hours. I did not have to cut anything and I didn't have to remove the starter either. I did have to trim the lip where the skidplate mates to the inner fender wall, that took about 5 minutes with the handheld grinder. The biggest pain was the exhaust alignment and routing the O2 sensor wires. I would have to disagree the PITA statement. It isn't to bad the painful part is sliding in and out from under the car. Oh yeah they are a real nice product and adds some real performance to the car. nNo CEL after several months on the car. I can't wait for the dyno tune later this month.
I thought of doing the video but had left my camera at home, did it at my buddy's house while working on the stereo. It took about 5 hours, but thats because it took a little over an hour to cut through the weld on the clamps connecting the h-pipe to the exhuast. The pain in the butt part was getting the weld off and trying to get around the starter (before taking we took it off) and sliding in & out from under the car like achilds said. Besides that it was very easy, pretty much went right in. The O2 sensors weren't bad either except that I have a elite engineering abs of steel, so it was a little difficult getting the screws back in. I can't wait for the tune either, going to put a new throttle body on, port the intake and probably put a new cam in, then have it tuned.
