I have owned my 2005 C-6 for about three months. Latley i have began to notice a real slap/clunk driveline noise when at low speeds. I had it in the other day to the local dealer who refered to it as normal and printed me a GM doc# 1856944. This reads as follows- "The noise is a normal torque reversal in the driveline and a combination of axle backlash, front and rear drive shaft rubber isolation flanges, drive shaft center support, and a dual mass flywheel all working together. This is a normal characteristic and not a condition of operation concern. No repairs should be attempted"
I have talked to another owner who does not notice the noise from his 05. Has anyone had the same problem and was there a fix?
i have the same problem. mine appears to be coming from the rear end and also make noises (clunking) at low speeds turning either left or right and when backing up. taking to the dealer next week. this is not normal.

Probally differential noise, not drive line "torque - reversal".
Personally I think it's all just poor engineering tolerances but the car is built with such tough components that it won't ever be a problem. It got me thinking that if BMW or Benz built this car would they have the same kind of issues regarding slop or play in the driveline??
I have 25,000 miles on my '05 and have had no problems other that DRL bulb connectivity, (oh yeah and then there was that differential boot leak incident), but minor none the less. Then I started hearing this slap/clunk noise. Initially it sounded like CV joint noise, but I couldn't make it do it when it should have if it was. (did you follow that) I had it in for alignment at 20K and asked the dealer to look into it. They gave me the "every sound we heard was normal" sentance that get's them off the hook and makes me look paranoid. So, I have been searching the forum for the same symptom, and until now thought I was crazy.
Thank the almighty for Corvette forum where we can find comfort in the knowledge that we are not alone and our greatest fear of comming apart at 140 MPH are kept in check by the knowledge that it hasn't happened to anyone else with the same noise.
I just dropped my car off today ('05, manual, 17k) at the dealership to service the rear end chatter sound. Did a test drive with the service advisor so he could hear the rear end noise, but I took that opportunity to bring up the "clunk" driveline sounds you decribed at low speeds and he said, "that's normal for a manual". So frustating!! I hate dealing with service advisors, they act like your the 1st to bring up these complaints. There were 2 other Corvettes ahead of me and I could see 3 more in the service bays up on the racks. Hummm? I wounder what for? This Corvette Forum has been a great source of information and at least gives us an opportunity to back up our complaints with facts. So here's what I'm having done. 1.) rear end chatter (fluid change), 2.) hard top recall, 3.) a/c issues (intermittent not running/mold smell), 4.) alignment, 5.) rear/drivers side brake squeel.
Thanks to everyone for there input.I look forward to reading more. Glad to know its not just me. The car has been very impresive and a blast to drive. I agree that if the car was made by BMW or Mercedes that you would not have this problem. Its a classic mass production sloppy issue. For a 45K car, my C-6 is in a class of its own. My farthers 110K has no drive line issues. It is an automatic...

Absolutely! BMW M3's are well known for this condition, and clunking is a common and much complained about problem. Do a Google search and see for yourself.
I'm also getting a clunking noise on my 06 A6. I also hear a grinding kind of noise when turning at low speed, sounds like it's coming from the front.
Anyone else getting this?

Mine's clunking, of course the dealer could not get it to do it. What's next? I'm about to spend big bucks for new tires and an alignment because they failed to do it correctly at the factory. If this is my baby it must be possessed, next thing guess the top will start spinning and it will puke green eddie
Let's be clear. This issue is not the differential noise. That is a series of thumps as the clutches rub against one another. The noise described here is a single slap or clunk mostly alligned with torque reversal at moderate to low speed straight line movement. I have both, so I know there are two. I have an A4.

Took my MN6 to the dealer when I first got the car due to the "clunking" sound. The dealer put in an additive which helped for a 1,000 or so miles then the noise returned. I now have almost 22,000 mile and experience the same noises as yours. I keep telling myself it is "normal" and am glad I have an extended warranty.
