I don't like using the paddles at the strip 'cause it's so hard to nail the shift points. Nothing slows you down more than bouncing of the rev limiter...
I will only run it in 'S - full automatic' mode at the track.

Yes, but that's also an extra shift, right now we go through in only 3rd...the better gearing (with traction of course) would still likely yield better results though.
like the aod shifter in the 5.0s what a shifting fun time that was with 1.0s and better 60 fts if you didnt shift back to first instantly you would go right to drive
Yup, I remember my AODs, if you wanted it to stay in a certain gear you had to be quick with that shifter.
OK, so we know the housings aren't swapable... What about the gearset and carrier? I don't have a problem with going into the diff as long as I know the internal parts are interchangeable beforehand. I'm so excited!!!!!!
How much will 3.42's bring down highway mileage? I'd still like to see 3.15's I think 3.42's might be too much for a daily driver, and as soon as you do any mods with that gear the car would never hook up. I remember what my 99 A4 with 3.42's was like and it sounds like this would be much more.......
I don't think it would bring down the gas mileage. It has a 5 and 6th gear that will go to 200 mph still. Should not be any problem to cruise around at 55.
I really don't worry about gas mileage much though.
Callaway plans to introduce a 3.42:1 Z06 diff option for A6-equipped Callaway SuperNatural and SuperCharged Corvettes. The slowest Callaway SuperCharged Corvettes, automatic convertibles, turn mid-11's with the stock ratio. The diff option will get them closer to 11-flat e.t's.
You won't have to buy a complete car to get the diff, though. The new diff will also bolt into any 2006 - 07 automatic trans car and we plan to offer it as a "stand alone" part. Other gear ratios that are available for the new Z06 could also be installed.
The differential won't be ready for sale until some time after the first of the year. Right now, we don't know what the final price will be. Sorry I can't be more specific. But I just wanted to let you know that it's being worked on.
I'll be interested email me nd4spd@***.net
Thanks,
Kevin
LG Motorsports has all the rear diffs you need. The problem I am coming up with is what to do with the stock '2' series diff. They are no good as core, there for you have additional charge. A big one

Is it technically considered a '2 series' carrier much like the old 2.73s were?
I thought that maybe this was considered a stronger/beefier rear (like the 3.15/3.42 rears) than that one and would maybe make for a good starting point for a ring and pinion swap once (and if) the gears became available.
Maybe not.
I talked to the guys at LG Motorsports, they told me directly that the 2.56 diff is still a "2" series and was "no good" to them. So in other words you have a 70 pound paper weight. If, someone has another way around this problem I would love to know.
It looks like I was wrong. I just got off the phone with LG Motorsorts, and the new information I have is that the 6speed Auto Diffs are not available yet. Sorry guys.
