Default GM aggressive exhaust installed!

Hey guys,
I installed the GM aggressive exhaust on my LMB Z51 vert in my garage by myself yesterday. It was simple! The stock exhaust was out in 15 minutes and the new exhaust was installed in under an hour (and that was because I cleaned the undercarriage at the same time). The fit was great; much better fit than the B&B I installed on my '94.

As far as the sound, it is awesome. Perfect low muscle rumble without any high pitched tin sound. There is no question this is the sound I wanted. If anyone says this exhaust is too loud, then the only thing I can say to them is you are too old. At idle and at cruise, it is just noticeable. Rev the RPMs up and you know you have an aftermarket exhaust. I cannot imagine the touring exhaust, it must be no louder than the stock exhaust because the aggressive is not much louder than stock. If you really want to hear loud, then listen to my '72 with Flowmaster 40 series mufflers. Now that is LOUD!

I read that the exhaust had some "drone" between 1300 and 1600 RPMs. If that is what is referred to as "drone", then you should just stick with the stock exhaust. That "drone" they talk about is what I would describe as the "sweet spot." There is no big shake in the interior and I can easily talk to my passenger.

As far as the tip having clamps that look tacky, well I placed the bolt on the bottom. The car sits so low that the clamp and bolt are not noticed. I guess if that still does not work then weld them on.

So I am very pleased and think they are perrrrrfect!
Eric

The off road exhaust does have some drone as that is what I have. It can be controlled by throttle, etc. I have heard some audio clips of the aggressive and it does seem like it would have less or no drone or resonance. It has a nice mellow, throaty tone. I'm sure you will like it the more you drive it.

I have the off road exhaust too .

My clamps are at an angle? How did you clamp them down so that the bulky piece is not showing? Do you have a photo you can post of your clamps? I may need to have mine adjusted.

BTW here are few video clips of the Off Road exhaust on my car.

I have the Borla Aggressive - same system, I believe. I do not have the x-pipe, do you?

While I agree with the awesome sound, I disagree about the drone. I definitely get an annoying vibration right from about 1550 - 1700 rpms that I find I have to get through quickly. Worse, on the highway when at about 70-75 mph in 6th, it just hurts. I have to either speed up, slow down, or shift to 5th. Just my experience.

I'll get a picture of the clamps tomorrow. I do not have an x-pipe just the stock h-pipe. I may be wrong but I heard the GM and Borla systems have different mufflers. Borla designed the pipes but GM engineered the mufflers. I have heard the Borla systems have more drone with the h-pipe than with the x-pipe but I have no first hand experience.

My understanding was the Borla Aggressive were the same as the GM 'Off Road', and the Borla Touring were the same as the GM 'Performance'.

I could be wrong; that was just what I heard.

Either way, I'm glad you're happy with it, and all things considered, I too love my Borlas.

Default Gm Aggressive System

So you are happy with the GM system and you find no drone on the touring system?

I had the off road exhaust for about three weeks, at first I liked it but then it began to wear on me. It has a drone for sure. Nice sounding though. I have Corsa Sports now. I'm happy. Maybe I'm getting "old".

Default GM Performance

I have heard the off the road and I prefer the performance system. A little more sound but I am well past the days of my 69 camero with headers. Vettes are todays mid life car.

I just put these on the other day and started noticing a wierd smell. I didn't figure out where it was coming from until today when I bent down to smell the exhaust tips and the smell was coming from the pipes. Sort of hard to describe the smell but it is sort of like lemons. Anyone else experience any sort of smell right when you put in a new exhaust?

The smell will go away...and the really loud burbling and loudness will mellow out a little when miles are put on the exhaust system. I think the exhaust might sound different on the 05 A4 compared to the 06 A6.

I think that has changed! More and more younger adults are buying these cars everyday. Some polls on this forum is showing that is case...it seems like everyday there is a thread of a young adult buying one.

I’ve had mine on for about 6 weeks. Smelled bad the first 2 weeks. It's MUCH louder now than the day it was installed. Still like the sound. I purchased sound deadening a while back before the exhaust was installed which I plan on installing when temps get low enough to allow me to work without passing out.
