Default Brembo rotor evaluation.

......I orderd the Brembo rotor pakage for my C6 with the standard suspension. I like the look of the Z51 drilled rotors but prefer the standard ride. For me the look was more important than the performance hype and expense of Z51. Looked at manufacturers web sights and Ebay. Shopped the $250/set to the $400/pair rotors and bought these middle of the road Brembos on Ebay offered by Sportbrakes @ $370/set including shipping. These are direct swap-outs, are zinc coated throughout cast iron of the same thickness and diameter as factory units. They may weigh in about 6 ounces less per unit for the drilling/sloting! The zinc coating is a rough texture on the whole rotor including the firepath. I ordered Delco ceramic pads from Fred Bean and decided to break in rotors with the original pads. After installing and driving, you get a lot of dust right away with the sandpaper action on the pads by the zinc coating......something like 3 tablespoons worth inside the rims.............however the zinc wore smooth after less than 50 miles of urban driving and normal stops in traffic. You may change pads at the same time as the rotors as the pad wear is totally insignificant............just looks like a big mess till the zinc wears away on the firepath. I used the original shims when changing the pads as is a new car and used the grease included on the contact points so I wouldn't have any issues with squeek, rattle and shudder on braking. For those of us who are real sporting drivers of the Corvette, there is sheet intructions included for seasoning the rotors and pads. The slots and holes appear uniform through each spoke of the factory mags unlike those economy rotors with less holes drilled. You can polish the upper ball joint that also shows thru the wheel with some steel wool or drill mount wire wheel. Good price, good looks and.........clean wheels, worth a hot day in my Arizona garage!http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i1...1/IM000922.jpg http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i1...1/IM000924.jpg

I'm waiting to put mine on. That zinc look really stands out if you have chromies!

I put on the Gran Tourisimo (sp?) set complete with their pads and lines 500-1000 miles ago. Very little dust even on break-in. Completely quiet. The rotor is so smooth it looks chrome plated. I could not get the drilled/slotted, so just got drilled (which I think is cast into the rotor, knowing Brembo). There is absolutely no play at all, brick hard in-your-face braking. Very pleasant, even at low speeds (no tracks yet). At 400% over factory brakes, they should be, and they are. Nothing like 'em.

I agree-Have 4000 miles on mine with GM ceramic pads. They look great and they still look new. no rust. If others decide to get them, follow the break in procedure to the letter.

The rotors are corner specific and are on their correct axles per manufacturer instructions. I don't know if reversing position would make any difference or change braking/longevity performance other than just reversing the slot spiral. I believe you can get replacement rotors from Baer and Brembo for Z51 cars. Chek the web sites.
