Default verticle door advice

I have a very tight garage space, and an occasional clumsy friend or two in tight parking lots. Has anyone installed verticle door kit? If so, how does it work/seal, etc. How far does the door swing out before it stops?

thanks!

Thats got to be one of the worst mods you could possibly do. You screw up the resale value of your car, you look like a jerk, and it could leak. DO NOT DO IT. If you want vertical doors buy a lambo, or maybe a deloreon is more your speed.

On a C5, they come out about a foot or 18" before they go vertical, so it probably won't help you. As for looking like a jerk, you can get out in public and noone will know they are verticals.

However, I read in Autoweek about Galpin Auto in Los Angeles, who have a shop that does all kinds of customizing for all of their dealerships and are the new 'Pimp my Ride' shop, that the only mod they won't do to a car is vertical doors because they aren't crash worthy.

I would never do them unless it was a strictly show car only.

The one person I know who had it done on his C5 said he absolutely would not do it again, due to fitment issues.

. . . and then you, too, can have a successful Lemon Law suit against Lamborghini. More than one dissatisfied owner has made Volkswagen (the owner of Lambo) buy back a $250,000 car.

thanks for all your help. I thought this would be an easy way to save the paint on the doors. Since they go lateral before verticle (like the lambo's - not the DeLorean), it kind of defeats the purpose. I guess I'll have to revert to being a gentleman and walk around the car and open the door for the dates, so they don't ding them!

Just to let you know I am returning my vertical door kit that was just delivered base don all of your opinions. My car is for drag racing. I just like the appearance of the vertical doors, but it is not the best for racing. Thanks for the info
