Hi everyone, I had a check fuel system or service fuel system message come up last night while stuck in traffic for about 3 hours. The gas guage had been on 1/2 full but went all the way down to 0 and message popped up then check engine light came on. I killed the car and waited a few then restared and all was well for about 5 min then did it again. This happened 3 times then just went away. I am not sure what is up but I did make sure the gas cap was tight. My car is a 05 if anyone has seen this please let me know.

Old news. There is a TSB on this. More than likely it is as simple as an ECU reflash by your dealer. If you are unlucky, then it's the fuel sending unit, but mine had the same issue...new software...no more issue.
Shouldn't be a problem. If it ever sticks to zero, just reset the ECU, and it will likely come back (pull battery cable for 10 seconds).
Thanks I am taking her to the dealer on Friday for an oil change and will have them look at it. Just freaked me out because we were north of Austin and needed to make it home to San Antonio. I think it is something minor but didn't know if I might have got bad fuel or something else???

No big deal, but it can freak you out...especially if you haven't paid much attention to the gauge for a while to look down and find it dead!
If you do get stuck like that and really need to know how much gas you have...just do the battter disconnect and it will pop back up. Easy fix though, dealer can knock it out in 5 minutes.
I had the same thing on my 05 and they removed the left tank and replaced the fuel card. Today they do most of them with a flash. Good luck and let us know how it turn out.
What if you have custom tune? Wouldn't that put it back to stock?
If you have a custom tune, it's more likely GM can't flash it period. You have to have the tuner flash it to stock and then get the GM upgrade...then re-tune.
I was in that situation. My pcm was locked on the previous tune, and I went from LSedit to HP Tuners, so I had to buy new ECM and TCM anyway, and had a friend hit the new computers with the latest GM software... the 2 new computers are only about $400 total, so no biggie.
