Default Changing the Thermostat

Today I put in a 160 degree thermostat, with the assistance of FB3. This is one of the easier jobs I have done - but working on a new car is a lot nicer than working on my old truck. Releasing and reinstalling the spring hose clamp was the hardest part, grrrrrrr .

This shows the thermostat housing going back on, with the new thermostat inside, and the kevlar strap holding the auxiliary hose out of the way to provide access to the stubborn spring clamp.

SUMMARY: changing the thermostat is a piece of cake; just do it if you want to.

WHY: Because the Florida tuners demand that you have a 160 degree thermostat or they won't tune your car. Next stop, Mike Norris when he visits Horsepower Sales in Pompano . . . .

Could you have just removed the two small bolts that hold the stat housing instead of removing the hose & clamp.

Yes, that's how I did mine. I never touched the hose or its clamp.

NOW you tell me ! ! ! I was just following the instructions in the $114 Chevy service manual .

I am sure that leaving the hose attached would work fine, so all other thermostat changers, be informed.

I replaced the housing when I did the 160° T'stat so I had to remove the spring clamp. I replaced it with a screw clamp so it'll be easier the next time.
