I did a search and really did not find what I was looking for. I know it's not legal, but have any of you removed your cats? If so, was there a noticeable performance gain? Also, what about sound. I am running Flowmaster #10's 1 chambered racing mufflers, so I am hoping if I remove my cats I will get an even more agressive and louder sound.
I have the KOOKS offroad X-pipe which eliminates the cats. I am probably going remove the offroad to put the KOOKS high flow cats on because the odor is pretty nasty. I have a conservative tune and I'm going to make a pulley change anyway so I will just re-tune to adjust for any power I might lose.
I was going to buy the offroad x-pipe this week along with the kooks headers. What did the non-cat do to your sound? I'm not worried about passing a smog test since I don't have one where I live.
Also how bad was the smell? Is it to the point it kills you at a red light or just sitting still in the garage?

Before all of my performance mods all I had was the Corsa Sport, nice sound. When I got the car back after ProCharger, FAST, KOOKS and offroad X-pipe it sounded like a MONSTER. I was totally shocked, but man I love it. Don't ever believe Corsa cannot have drone at 1500. You will notice the odor while stopped with the windows down (depending on wind direction) and it is strong enough to get into your clothes before you make it out of the garage.
Awsome. Thanks for the fast reply. Now I don't know what to do. I really want the best sound possible but don't like the idea of smelling like smog. Plus I was hoping to save some money by not using the cats.

saplumr,
You made a very good point about the smell of the X-pipe. I had them on my 02 Z06 and noticed the same. I was surprised that our forum members did not take note of this or maybe it never happened to them. The 02 Z06 was my first Vette which I purchased in July 05. The X-pipe was already on the car. I didn't know better.

Yep!! I've done some dumb things in my life and removing the cats rates right at the top.
I've got LG's with the off road set up, and don't have an obnoxious smell. That is without a tune too. I'm running a bit rich, but no real bad smell. The only thing I have that I don't want is a CEL for the rear O2 banks.

Hi there:
I have a set of custom SS cat by-pass pipes which I will be replacing with the LG Headers and off-road setup...so if you are interested in them let me know and I can sell them to you.
