Default K & N intake install problem

Hi all,
Just bought 2006 C6 VETTE, MN6, Z51. Tried to install K & N intake then check engine light came on. I disconnected the harness to MAF but instructions didn't say to do this. Wondering if anyone know's what the cause might be. Removed K & N and reconnected the stock intake, then no check engine light. Havn't checked the codes yet, but thought maybe someone has had this happen and knows off hand how to what's causing the check engine light to come on steady.
Thanks,

Mine went on quickly and with no CEL.

Are you sure everything was tight with no air leaks?

I'm almost positive there were no leaks.

wouldn't hurt to check again, it is definite NOT related to k & n air charger. since it went away when you put the stock intake back on, try putting k&n again and see what happens, if it comes back again get the code. without it, it is anybodys guess.

Also, don't disconnect any harnesses, there is no reason to do this.

I wouldn't even disconnect the negative battery terminal even if it says to do so.

Has to be a leak somewhere. I had no problem whatsoever when I put mine on. Just double and triple checked that everything was tight--re tightened the clamps three times over the next 2 weeks, as they will loosen after first install. Also, I noticed a sop improvement, others scoff, but it was there going up a hill. K&N makes a quality piece, as they should for the price! so I think it's something simple like a slight leak. Good luck!

Did you over oil the filter?

I think you have an air leak because that is the only thing that could make the light go on. It took me longer to read these posts than to do the install when I did mine.

Just my opinion.

I will put it on again sat. i'm thinking maybe the MAF harness wasn't connected fully, possibly. I'll leave the battery connected too. Will let you know. The intake is new, so didn't oil it.
Thanks,

The two pieces of hose included in the kit are different diameters, if you swap them, one will be too loose to seal properly. When installed properly it definitely adds SOP improvement, at least it did on mine.

Reinstalled K & N intake today w/o removing harness and battery cable. No check engine light. Made sure all clamps were tight. Works fine now, must have been air leak after all. Runs and sounds better too.
Thanks for your help.
