Default Post intake install question

I recently installed a Halltech Stinger intake on my '07 A6. It went smoothly which probably can be considered a minor miracle for a newbie like me No other mod's.

Here's my question. After installation does it take a finite period of time for the car to "adjust" to the new air flow? It appears that the car runs for lack of a bettter description, a little rough. My wife even made the comment that it sounded "louder" in the cabin, I think she meant that you can hear the motor running vice prior to the install you couldn't or at least not as much.

This is not immediately obvious and could be a figment of our imaginations.

The other aspect is that after reading many posts I was not expecting much in the way of any great performance increase, but I have to say that I feel as if I've gotten a noticeable improvement in throttle response and an increase in my SOTP enjoyment from the car as it appears the car is liking the new air flow quite a bit.

I put a K&N in my 2002 Yukon and don't remember any noticeable difference from stock. In this car should I expect this kind of noticeable improvement?

So.... Could I have done something wrong in the install to make it run a little rough or is that normal as it seeks it's new equilibrium.

I did not receive any install instruction with the intake but ran them off a WEB site along with help from other forum members. The intake was wrapped in plastic film to keep clean..I assumed that the proper amount of oil was on the filter.. Could there have been too much and it is ingesting excess oil? Should I have dried out the filter first?

Or am I nuts and everything is as it should be?

As an OBTW, At the bottom of the exhaust tips I noticed small amount of darkened residue at the very bottom center of each of the exhaust tips which I have never noticed before.

Added in an edit. This condition exists at all operating temps even after the car is warmed up. And I'm not getting any codes.

I know...The car appears to be running rougher but runs better!? I know I'm messed up.

Thanks for helping the Newbie,

Lee

The airl filter is now exposed so you will get more airflow noise. I like the sound. If the roughness continues past 100 miles ( when the computer will have re-learned parameters) then you need to investigate.
Otherwise, I would recheck all your connections to ensure there is not a leak. Also check you C-clamps for tightness and position.

if you are having roughness, mostly likely you have a leak after the maf, which is confusing the pcm, if that is the case you may get a check engine light soon.
