Hooking up my Valentine One .
Where do you recommend I find a hot outlet?
I have the lighter plug but when using the remote display I need to find a hot wire.
In an effort to keep thngs stock ( not tap into wires )
My car does NOT have Onstar. What about tapping into the fuse slot for Onstar? Do they make any adapter by any chance?
Nice car and color You could get the mirror mount or the visor mount and plug your Valentine 1 into your mirror.
I'm actually using the visor mount - I stuck it up under the headliner left of drivers mirror. I had it on the suction cup mount but it really showed from the front of the car.
I looked at the pic of the mirror mount & while it looks tidy , It also appears to be a vision blocker. I could live with using the main units readout but since I have the remote display , I outa use it . On my 02 Z06 It mounted perfect in the ashtray slot & if you got pulled over you just muted it & closed the ashtray door. For me to be able to do that on my C6 I'm gonna have to cut on the inner wall of the ashtray door. Which is ok cuz I'll never allow smoking in my car anyway. I was just thinking somebody on the CF would know right where to get ign power without much fuss or using a probe light. I hate to go to a stereo install place for such a small issue...
I went to Advance Auto and got a gizmo that fits into a fuse slot in the panel in the passenger footwell. I used the cruise control fuse slot and it works fine. About $5 plus the price of a fuse for the radar detector. Ran the power up the side pillar and across the top of the windshield.
I have a V1 with the remote ( it's in the ashtray area). I used an add-a-fuse that I got from Autozone. You could also use something like this http://www.accessafuse.com. The line from the V1 goes to a splitter box and another line goes to the remote. the splitter has power and ground inputs, so I used the add a fuse to have another circuit.

Who cares what it looks like from outside? A V1 must be low enough to see out your rear window.....

$5 "gizmo" is exactly what I'm looking for.
So you used this gizmo to "piggyback" power . Did you have to use a higher amp fuse as well?
The "add a circuit" has 2 slots for fuses. 1st is for the original fuse that you remove to put the add a circuit in. The 2nd will be for the radar detector. It'll have a wire coming off of it that you tie into to power radar

"add a circuit" thanks.
Where the best slot? In my case, I thought I'd try the onstar since I dont have it.
My wifes fuel pump died on her Onstar equipped ,Yukon in Dallas rush hour traffic recently. She tried & tried only to receive busy signal from her Onstar. Cell phones saved the day NOT "gonestar". Plus I understand they are going digital/upgrading their equipment & wont be backwards compatible.........
I had the display in my ashtray for a while but later moved it to top of the steering column (mounting tape)- don't need to take your eyes off the road as much, in fact you can usually see the arrows light up even if you don't hear the beeps due to loud stereo, wind noise, etc.

Jim,
Great Idea! I just mounted mine on the steering column just under the DIC. Perfect fit. Thank God for industrial strength velcro.
I'll try it like that for a day or so then tuck the wire....

I have power mirrors and was looking at the invisicord.com solution to power the detector but I am not sure how this will work with the remote display and communicate with it.
If I follow your idea above could you give me some description of the Radio Shack or AutoZone parts to look for to function as a "splitter". Could you take a picture or two and post possibly or give a brief description of how the wires are traced within your car?
