Just Heard That If You Disconnect The Negative Side of The Battery
When You Do A Mod Like A CAI, The PCM Goes Into Learn Mode And
Learns The New Inputs Much Quicker. Think There Is Anything To This Theory ?
yes there is something to this theory. The computer keeps track of past settings and adjusts things based on the past data, if you clear that data it is forced to learn from the new data which will cause it to learn the new info faster instead of it having to average it out with the old data.
What disconnecting the battery does: it erases LTFT's and STFT (long and sort term fuel trims) which is how the ECU adjusts fueling according to feedback from the various sensors (mainly the O2 sensors). Doing this allows the ECU to attempt to compensate for the changes made by mods (within limits).
These are the only tables that are adjusted "on the fly" (to my knowlege)- other tables are adjusted by writing a tune/calibration to the flash memory in the ECU. LTFT/STFT tables are not going to give you more horsepower or substitite for a real tune - which modifies VE/PE/Timing tables.
I disconnect my C6 batt these days cos I'm not driving the car so much. Does this mean that when I reconnect, the car is not performing to it's maximum capability for a few miles until everything is relearned? I seem to think my old C5 did this and it took about 40 miles before everything was back to normal. I thought th C6 was different from the C5 as far as this was concerned.
