i have read the comments on oil changes. i kinda live in the boonies and have scheduling issues on getting to a chev dealer to get the oil change. any issue on going to a local mechanic and getting a oil change as long as the recommended parts and oil are used? and would this void the warrenty? I have a 05 with 6k miles and 15% on the DIC? i have already had to cancel 2 appts and most likely a 3rd this friday.
Do it yourself if you can. That way you know it's done right. Otherwise, watch him and make sure he uses what you want. It's nice if you know him and can already trust him. Still, I would never let someone change the oil on any of my cars if I had a place to do it myself.

And remember; the Dealer is going to charge a markup on the oil and filter + his tech's labor rate. Count on an $85.00++ invoice for just an oil & filter.
If he's changing the oil on a lift take along a set of lifting pucks...or better yet put a set of BMW pucks in before you go...and then make sure the guy knows they are there, what they are for, and that he USES THEM!!
they def. have a mark up. the final cost with the mobil 1 was about 58 bucks. i change the oil and filters in my other cars but they are not under warrenty. i only have 7k on the car and don't want to give an excuse to chevy to void my warrenty. they did put it up on a "special" lift so no probs there.
