Hurst Shifter -

True it has a much tighter feel to it and will take some time getting used to vs the stock shifter. That being said - its out of the box settings - with no additional adjustments suited me just fine. I didn't think it was massively harder to shift - but it certainly feels much tighter and shorter to throw into gear.
I'd also say that it mellowed a bit in the first 3 months. Not sure if this is actually due to me using it more and it "breaking in" or just me getting used to the way it feels.
Either way I think its a great improvement over the stock. I wouldn't hesitate to do the upgrade again. Its a simple install and removal should you decide its not for you.

Missile

to be honest, i just about chucked my hurst yesterday.
all of a sudden i began having problems getting her into reverse, and since it's an '05, reverse is required to shut her down properly. it started getting worse and worse.
ahh man, the problem didn't start until the clutch was replaced under the 6k rpm shift tsb. at first i was thinking there were issues with the tranny. it felt as if the reverse lock was failing closed. i could only get it in reverse after i moved it around alot. very very frustrating. since i'm only 10 minutes from Cooper's Corvettes in dumfries, va. i gave tom a call. he took the time to talk, i explained what was up and that i could drop it off anytime, and if it came down to it i was going to have him rebuild the tranny and replace the flywheel, etc. etc. he told me he wouldn't be able to look at it until mon. but he would most likely look at the shifter adjustment first. cool. i told him since i put the shifter in the first time that i would give it a shot and if it didn't fix it i'd be by on mon.
turns out the shifter tube clamp was loose, allowing the tube to slip.
you can test for a loose shifter tube clamp by checking the left-to-right movement of the shifter while it's in gear. if you place the shifter in first, and leave it in first, but can pull the shifter all the way to the right your clamp is loose.
hey, it only took me all day and hurst, stock, stock, hurst, hurst, stock, back and forth, forth and back, finally found it and fixed it, but now i need to get a new ****. red locktite is probably a little much for the ****.
oddly enough, the 'stock' shifter would find reverse everytime even with the loose clamp.

when you replace yours, i'd also check the clamp.

the clamp is that southmost hex bolt. the one on the bottom edge of the pic.

i found lager99's thread helpful.

the only information i might add would be;
you don't need to "Remove two nuts in rear of console.", you can remove the console top instead.
to 'Gently pop off airbag light", pry from the bottom edge inside the console, those are two pressure clip holes in the pic.
before you "Gently pull on the silver part of the console " remove the two small hexhead screws under the e-brake boot, towards the front of the boot. the boot unclips straight up, if i recall correctly.
if you remove or loosen the the black piece that connects the console and the dash/footwell, on the left side of the passenger footwell the console will come off easier.
before you remove the stock shifter place it in reverse, then go to neutral and do a three four shift. place the shifter in neutral. remove the old shifter, insert the new shifter. just gently set it in place, move the shifter base around until it drops into place and the bolt holes line up.
tighten the shifter clamp, torque it down tight.
once you torgue down the shifter base you should be able to shift into all the gears, including reverse.
on the '05 you can test reverse by pressing the acc (put the car in acc. mode), place the shifter in neutral, press engine off, the dic will say, 'shift to reverse'. when the shifter goes into reverse the 'shift to reverse' message will clear and the car will switch to 'power saver mode'. if you open the driver door the car will begin the shutdown powerdown.
