Launching a manual trans
When I had my c4 ZR-1 I would rev to 2100 then dump the clutch and go wot and I would hook and launch. In the C6, I go totally by the feel..... dont even look at the rpm's and come off the clutch gradually while squeezing the throttle gradually, until I feel it hook...then WOT.
Just looking for input from SUCCESSFUL manual launches, street or DR's/
Thanks........
-Dennis
I"ve used your same technique in all my cars, 2000rpm dump, as soon as I feel it hook I would go WOT.
This tecnhique had always worked for me:
1.8s in my Viper on stock tires
1.8s in my 03 Cobra on DRs
1.9s in my 03 Cobra on stock tires
I tried it in my C6 and it resulted in a 2.3 and a 2.26 60'.
Saturday I am going to give it another try, but only at 1500-1800rpms and see what happens.
My best 60' in my manual C6 was to slip the clutch and gradually feed in throttle, this resulted in a best of a 2.023 60' on stock tires.
But, I am an all or nothing type of guy, so I will try my old technique again, hopefully a lower rpm launch will get me consistent 2.0s.

Try 2000rpms with the BFG DRs if you don't do a long burnout.
With my Viper never cut worse than a 1.8 with a 2000rpm launch, 3000rpms got me a 1.68 60'. That was on Kumho Ecsta V700 R-compunds.
With both my 03 Cobras 2000rpms on BFG DRs got me 1.8s or 1.9s.
Upping that to 3000rpms did worse.
I think since with a manual tranny I don't do a long burnout I can't launch at higher rpms.
What really blows my mind is how well the automatic C6s launch on STOCK tires just by hammering it off idle.
1.8-1.9 60's are common with the A6s and my A4/3.15 Vert cut a 1.92 on BASE runflats (Treadwear 300)
With my manual tranny C6 on stock tires I would be spotting the automatics 3-4 car lengths and then having to finally run them down just after the 1/8th. Oh, and you don't always run them down.

(hopefully i can describe it accurately)
bring the rpms to around 1500-2000
slowly begin to release the clutch and depress the gas pedal with the same speed at which you release the clutch, uh yep you'll be slightly slipping the clutch for a moment.
at about the halfway point of clutch release drop the hammer. fully release the clutch and fully depress the gas pedal. your rpms should be around 2500-3000 at the halfway point, before you fully release the clutch and fully depress the gas.
you can also slip the clutch a tad between shifts if you want, if you do it right you can make the front of the car lift and drop. very fun when you are 'chomping' on a ricer.
I tried that method my 1st time at the track with my C6 and it produced my best 60's of the day, a 2.03 and a 2.12 compared to my 2.26 and 2.30 dumping the clutch.
My buddy Jim says a trick is to say "One Chimpanzee" as you are doing that, by the end of "Zee" you should be completely off the clutch and at FULL throttle.
If my clutch dump technique does not work on my 1st runor two this week, I'll go back to that method.

I can't do a standing burnout in a manual and I can't powershift either.

I haven't perfected the burnout either (-:

agreed, it seems like i do better when i keep the nose in the air. gotta complete that shift before the nose drops.
i was referring to being 'stuck' in 'traffic' (at the track of course). you know, when you can't really get around the guy in front of you and you need him to move out of the way, just kinda play pac-man with the front end, chomp chomp chomp. i'm chewing on your rear - get it out of the way.
