Default Active handling system problem

I have a 2005 C6. This morning as I was driving to work doing about 60 mph the car started to swerve left and right for no reason as the active handling sytem kicked in. As this happened the display said that the active handling sytem is disabled and needs maintenance. I was able to get it under control and the car seems to be steering normal but the active handling light on the instument cluster is lit and won't extinguish even if I turn the active handling systme back on. Has any one had any problems like this?

the first thing i would try is the 'wiring connection' zip tie fix. there is a major wiring connection under the steering wheel that can work itself loose. try unseasting the connection, reseating it, then zip tie it. if that doesn't fix it there are other issues, which will need to be resolved by the dealer/mech.

This is an EXTREMELY SERIOUS issue and NOT to be ignored! Get to the dealer as soon as possible!!!

Am I reading this correctly that your active handling CAUSED the swerving?!?!

If his car is under warranty I would recommedn he just take it in to the dealer. I wouldn't want to see someone mess with the wiring connections, not fix the problem, then have an accident ....GM will be wiping their hands clean saying the wires were tampered with by the owner which resulted in the active handling system screwing up.

I had the same problem on my 2006 and it can cause you to loose control on the freeway! Take it to the the dealer and have them fix the conection in the steering column. I took mine to three dealers before they finally fixed it. The first two didn't belive me that that would happen and couldn't find a code readout. Goes to show you that they aren't mechanics anymore, just plug in and replace what the computer tells you too. There is a buliten on this repair and Chevy DOES know about this problem.

Gearhead, YES......that is what he is saying. When the system fails it actually engages for some stupid reason. You would think a failure would render the system useless instead.

My parents had this same issue on their 2005 as well.

It hard to believe it is not designed as failsafe. Lawsuit waiting to happen for GM.

Reminds me of a jetboat I had with some Lenco electric trim tabs. Heading across the lake on weekend and the boat makes a an immediate hard turn to the right. I shut her down and after checking my shorts, I found the Lenco relay box had fried (complete with smoke and burning plastic smell!) and in turn drove one of the tabs to a full extended position. Took 15 min of rewiring to get the thing retracted. While Lenco replaced the box for free, they told me on the phone that "I must have got an old version. We've been having some trouble with those.". Would have been nice to get a letter or a recall. Could have killed us.
