It must be a Northville thing. Mine has never worked either. I assume it has a mercury switch. I've tried to get it to work with the lights on and with them off, but no luck. I've only had my car to the dealer once and I forgot to tell them about it.

I had the same problem, it's comes from the factory unplugged. Find the plug in front of the radiator on the passenger side. Plug it in and it comes on everytime you open the hood. Also, the 2007's do not have a hood light.
