So I am out driving my car..trying to learn about it. I am using the paddles and slowly accelerate through all 6 gears, shifting up as soon as possible to figure out how all of it works, etc.
While IN 6th gear, slowly accelerating still I noticed that at around 50 mph the car will drop RPM's...approx 500. How is this possible?? I am in the tallest gear...6th, already. Is there another "over drive/7th gear?" Is it going into some kind of lower RPM for gas mileage? I.E. a pcm thing?
Later discovered it does it in 5th as well. As long as you accelerate slowly, it will happen.
Please give it a shot with your paddles and see if you have the same experience I do.
I heard that on really special 2007's that three cars got out with a seven speed tranny. Seventh gear allows you to cruise at 80 mph at only 400 rpm and get over 60 mpg!
Sorry, couldn't help myself, it's just the torque converter locking up. Sure seems like an extra gear and if you ever had an old tranny without a lock-up converter, it makes you really appreciate the lock-up feature!
