Default Cold Air Mod

I tried a cheap man's way (hey, I'm frugal!) of doing an Air Charger for my K&N inlet. I cut the shroud similar to what they do for the Air Charger (look at the video at Vette Doctors). Instead of cutting the complete rectangular section out, I cut the sides and I bent the plastic flap down into the air flow to the radiator. It wasn't that hard to do. I logged and when I got on it the IAT dropped much quicker than before. On the freeway onramp, the IAT dropped down to 75 with a 63 ambient. Before I never got within 20 degrees of ambient.

Now I want to cut the flap a little longer and then turn the stock rain guard upside down to try to keep the engine compartment air out of the filter area.

Comparing the data to CBRF's, it appears that the Halltech mod still works better.

Curious to see what temps you log with the "Halltech side openings" and the rain shield installed.
The rainshield forms a partial plenum as the hood insulator presses against it.
The K&N is a similar configuration as the SLP and Halltech filters.
I have fabricated side panels and gasketing for the rain shield, that will complete a fairly effective intake plenum area.

You might want to temporarily duct tape the space between the rain shield and the radiator cover to get a better overall seal.

I'll take some photos, but I won't be able to get to it till this weekend. I think I need to do this mod and the Halltech, then maybe if I'm really nice to CBRF, he'll cut out the plexiglas lid that goes over the filter area. His design seals off the area better than the backwards stock rain guard.

My son is going to log CBRF's car with and without the plexiglas lid to see what difference it makes. I'm hoping to get out to Firebird Friday night and that my IAT's are near ambient at the big end of the strip where it will help out the most.

I've never logged my IATs.

I did have the stock rainguard on for the first day or two, but decided just to leave the K&N wide open.

Hopefully I am not breathing in too much hot air from the engine compartment.

Keep us posted on the results,

Howard

Cool Glenn, let us know how it works out. Now do you see how can the Air-Charger can help produce more power? By lower your AIT, adding air and finally tuning (add timing, spark and possible a few percentage of fuel) can go a long way as far producing additional ponnies.

Again, for those of you who want a CAI kit that will make power and will not kill your wallet, a special Air-Charger offer is around the corner very soon!

I am working on inventory and on the vendors as far as cost, shipments, tuning (for those who want it) and so on.

Thanks.

i think your air chager works really well for the c6 z06, since it does create a ram air effect, but for the c6 folks there is no ram air, it is just any way to get outside / ambient air into the air filter area...thanks
