My wife and I have noticed our 2005 A4 Coupe is idling rough. The engine will jerk intermittently at idle and it is very sporadic. Not like a missing cylinder,, but more like a miss every once in a while. I searched the forum and didn't find anything on this. Is this normal? When the engine does this it vibrates the entire car,, You can feel this in the seat ( the shuttering of the car when the engine hickups.) Any others notice their LS2 idling like this. The car runs great, and doesn't seem to have any problems. It will really get with the program

you car has an issue, is the cel on? maybe a vaccum leak would be my first guess.
It just has some sporadic hickups, no lights, or engine lights,, and its idling around 600rpm. it will idles smooth for 2 or three seconds and hickup and then same thing over and over

any mods on the car? how long has this been going on? so far from your description "its idling around 600rpm. it will idles smooth for 2 or three seconds and hickup and then same thing over and over" it could be a vaccum leak.
you could wait to see if the cel comes on and pull the code or i would just make sure all the hose clamps are tight on the intake, specially after the maf. your car should not do be doing that.
2005 , 25,000 miles, 6 speed, stock, and i have a similar idle issue. With the HVAC system on it seems to keep the engine under load at idle and i don't really notice the occasional shake. W/O the HVAC system on the car generally idles smoothly (maybe a slight hint like the car has a hot cam as the idle isn't perfectly smooth) but occasionally "skips a cylinder" and the cars momentarily shakes. At WOT from 800-6,000RPM the cars runs great (no occasional missing). Of course the dealer service tech did not experience the same thing when resolving other issues and thought the car seemed to idle normally! I will be going back in a few weeks so i hope you find the problem!
i kinda had the same problem on my c6....i took it to the dealer and it was plug 8 that was loose....it started doin it after i installed my hurricane intake....i did research wen it was doin it and ppl said that its either the spark plugs or the MAF sensor that had grease on it from the intake fliters...let me know the outocme

Hi Bangen 2...
I too have a HURRICANE Intake plus headers, hi-flo cats, X pipe, Corsa, 160F T-stat and Blueprinted injectors from LPE.
The instructions with the HURRICANE Intake require washing and re-oiling of the ":Green Stuffr" filter element every 5000 miles, which given the amount of miles I drive, is a PIA. I recently cleaned the element at 21K miles,. after returning from a long road trip through Texas and back to NYS.
What's your opinion re cleaning this "Green Stuff"?....My previous experience was with a Blackwing and I washed and re-oiled the filter element evry 30K miles.
Thanks,
Bernie
BTW I experienced a loose plug wire too, but spotted it after 2 ignition cycles. The manifestation was exactly as described above...El Lumpo but no misfire when I got on the gas pedal
I also have an '05 A4 and I've been having the same problem for almost a year now. The dealer had a vette tech look at it, run it through the computer and all that jazz. Doesn't throw any codes or anything and runs fine, but I still get a bit worried. I'm going to check the plugs for filth and such tonight and see if that's the problem.
Guys,
Take it into the dealer. The tech will attach his system to the diagnostic port under the drivers dash. The system will tell him exactly what is happening and it will even tell him the history of problems as it sits there and idles. It could be a bad plug but it is probably something loose somewhere. Without a diagnostic system attached it is like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Found one that clicked when I pushed in on it. Checked for some loose electrical connections and etc. also turned the intake bolts a quarter turn tighter just incase, i didn't want to do anymore than that,, I removed the coil covers to check connections under there. anyway it felt like these things reduced the intensity of the shake, at idle but the idle is still not silky smooth the car still shakes a little at idle. I am thinking that maybe its an injector that is dirty or something, causing a cylinder to idle rough. Maybe this is just the nature of some of them. I doubt that a computer would show much as my dealer was supposed to have checked it out prior to delivery.

that was probably the cause. it should smooth out after a bit once that plug/cylinder gets cleaned/ starts firing regularly, depends upon how long it's been loose.
my 06 A6 does what yours does too. Not realy bad but you know its not Lexus smooth. If you find the fix let me know. I didnt try the dealer --no faith in em. One guy I respect thinks its the nature of the car. It is a performance car and the cam is bit on the performance side so you feel it now and then.
My 2005 A4 does the same thing, has since new. The Dealer says it is because of the cam, and could not pull any codes. Seems to miss a little, but runs smooth at load and on the highway, like a BOOH. I have not compared with other C6s, but otherwise runs great and gets great gas mileage.
