I have the redtop and it works just fine... word of advice though, purchase it at Costco, $99. I made the mistake of going to autozone and got ripped off for $160
The amp hour rating on that battery is pretty low. I believe you need about 40 to 50 and it is only 17. It obviously works, you just can't run the radio very long after you turn the car off.

I agree the Optimas seem like a better battery design. I too bought the red top and it's working fine. On the more important issue of how it will be holding up in 5-6 years, I guess we'll see. I'm hopeful - my first, but a friend has two that are 6&7 years old and going strong...
The post location did require monkeying around with the cables a little.
OBTW, I did get the red top at Costco about 2 months ago and I paid about $135...
I have a yellowtop, it's been great. Fit right in the stock battery mount as well. You don't need to buy the battery with the reversed mounts like people say either. The regular will work fine.
My OEM AC Delco battery was fine, but I decided to install a new Optima battery as preventative maintenance. The Optima was the most expensive battery I have ever purchased, but I have read only good things about the Optima. High capacity, and cold cranking amps, resistance to heat and vibration, spiral cell technology, will not leak, etc.
So I install the new Optima and the car will not crank. I charge the battery over night and the engine just barely turns over this morning.
I re-installed my original AC Delco battery, and it lights right up. I don't get it. I thought the Optima was about the best automotive battery money could buy.

What is the exact spec for the battery you purchased? I would say either it is the wrong battery for your application or you just got a bad battery, it does happen.
Have used Optima's batteries in my boat. They have plenty of power (used 900CCA) but diappointed with longenity. Have no experience in my Vett or any other vehicle.
