Default Help on identifying Scanner (DIC) code for bolt-on modified '06 LS-2

[B]Code is P-0420...."TWC System Low Efficiency bank 1"

1) I think this is occurring because after market cats (Random Tech) can't handle the non combustible Hydrocarbon load in cold weather.

2) What is TWC short for?

3) Suggestion from Hitman99 to get a tune and/or wrap the pipe near the cats in header wrap to keep them haotter and more chemically acive iwill be followed.

4) Unfortunately semi-heated garage is not an option since other cars got me trumped

5) WTF it's a plastic Chevrolet!

Thanks,

Bernie

it sounds too me like you are passing too much heat to the rear sensor on the driver side.

are your headers coated, by any chance ? if not, and you are gonna do the wrap trick, i'd wrap the headers pre cats, both sides.

Per my '05 shop manual; TWC is GM speak for Three-Way Catalytic converter. Most of us w/headers & CAI get the P0420 & P0430 codes.

The best way out of the problem is an ECM progrming change by a tuner.

I got the 430 every day until I turned it off with HP Tuners. American Racing 1 7/8's with cats.

Headers are Random Technology and are ceramic coated followed by High Flow Cats (which aren't running hot enough the pre-header wrap event), Random Tech X-pipe and Corsa sport cat back muffs.

Did the header wrap (per Hitman99) thing today and have been keeping car in semi-heated garage...Kicked out other C-6 with mucho car covers to the outside Tundra zone. not too much whining, ....yet!

So far no codes...but from what you guys have written this 0420 code is not a big deal...plan to get a tune once Vette "Physicians" or East Side Performance in CT.... when one of these outfits....can get me a dyno/scan slot.

Thanks gentlemen for answering the questions and pointing me along the path of Plastic Chevy Righteuosnous
