Default Good one

So, are we supposed to go to your web site and search endlessly through all the stuff for sale in serach for a intake only to buy something else?

Hey Rubavette...that (BBK) intake will add no more than 10 RWHP....but it's an easy install...like an SLP Blackwing or a K&N whatever.

A Hurricane gives more without shroud cutting maybe 19.8 RWHP (although they claim 25)

Other systems like the high quality Calloway Honker (15-18 RWHP) and the sainted Vararam (the most up to 30+ is the claim) will give larger gains.

Many threads which have comparative dynamometer results abound!

BTW, Los Angeles PI....your prior posts indicate that you are quite knowledgeable...but why don't you give Rubavette, an obvious newbie, a friggin' break?

Just my $.02 as an old time Vette guy. We all gotta start somewhere!...Right?

Happy Holidays,

Bernie

Bernie, thanks for your reply and I appretiated. I didn't know about the hurricane, it sounds nice.

To the other people I wasn't asking for you to do the research but only to give me your opinion. thanks

I have the same ? and have spent considerable time researching and talking w/ others. Basically, I have come to the conclusion that any air intake that feeds on ambient air in the engine compartment is a waste of $ and installation time. The "favored" three seem to be Vararam, Callaway Honker, and Lingenfelter. All of these have a duct system to gather "cold" outside air while the vehicle is in motion and ingest it directly into the engine. These products require certain modifications to the radiator shroud for installation (some are reluctant to do this). Anyone feel free to rebut as I am still learning.....

I installed the Callaway Honker and am impressed with the design and quality. It looks similar to the Z06 system. The stock system baffles me as it gets air from engine compartment and there is not much airflow to the stock filters, but they are easy to change as opposed to the Callaway filter which will require removal of the throttle body to clean and oil the filter. By the way the install was a bitch for me but I'm a neophyte. I was actually quite proud of myself after I got it finished without screwing up my car!!

The Calloway is teh best IMHO, as it looks OEM under the hood.

BTW, you dont have to remove the intake and throttle body to clean the filter, just remove the thumbscrews and lift the intake up a few inches and take the filter out, no biggie. Your throttle body is connected to a flexible baffle that allows for movement of the air intake.

Merry Christams.

Just so your aware... A couple of holes done strategically and you will get outside air temps at the filter be it stock or otherwise when the car is moving. Also the stock airbridge does not provide the smoothest flow due to the air turbulence created as the two streams meet. Then there is the fact that some people drive their cars all year in places where hydrolock is not entirely unheard of and they dont want to go there despite the low odds of it happening.

I swear to God it took me no more than a few clicks and 30 seconds to find the intake he was talking about. Next time try using the search feature. It's not just for message boards anymore...

Don't forget the Vortex Rammer from Breathless,one of our Forum sponsors.It looks to be an excellent system as well,and certainly one I am considering.

Those hole, do you put them behind the filter or in the bottom close to the bumper? Because I think if you put them behind the filter it should do the same o close to it as the vortex or rammer.

Hi Invisiguard, Merry Christmas!

Exactly what makes this thread spam?

Consider these observations/points:
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>

1) Rubavet asks a factual/perfectly justified, albeit naive, question;

2) Some of youse more experienced (and NOT full of the "Aloha Spirit" quite obviously) dudes... get on his case, without justification IMHO;

3) I thought, and maybe I'm in error on this one.... that one of the main purposes of the Forum was to spread the wealth, so to speak, especially wrt technical information regarding our C-6 LS-2 powered and modified Corvettes. Now maybe I'm the NAIVE one, here...but I really don't think so.

4) I've been into high performance cars, (18 modified Vettes and a one 930 Turbo Porsche and one 328 GTSI Ferrari) since 1957...and I personally have learned much from what other peole have written here and from PM's. And I gotta admit...I used to ask naive questions, mainly because I didn't know and wanted to find out!! There is no such thing as a dumb question...IMHO....just dumb and apparently smart-*** answers.

5) Like I've written before..."We all gotta start somewhere" and really guys, wouldn't it be a boring world if everyone were on the same intellectual/technically astute level?...I.E., "GIVE THE NEWBIES A FRIGGIN' BREAK....PERIOD"....Nuff said about this point....actions speak louder than words.

Best Regards,

Bernie
