Default 1>4 Gear Shift Light???

I just bought a '07 C6 and I notice that @ around 1800 RPM (1st gear) to about 2500 RPM a "1>4" light flashes indicating to change from 1st gear to 4th gear. After 2500 RPM the light turns off. I have also noticed this occurs after the car temperature reaches above 170. I just want to know if there is anyone else who is experiencing this. Is there anything wrong with my Vette or is this a feature for fuel effeciency only?

You can do a search and find a lot of discussion on this topic. GM did this to boost its mpg ratings and avoid gas guzzler tax. It's annoying but you can purchase and install a little device called shift eliminator. It can be found at the various vendors online for about $20. Alternatively you can rev past the 1-4 shift zone.

I presume you have a manual transmission...did you also notice that when the light comes on, the tranny forces you to shift from 1st to 4th. This is the so-called "CAGS" servo kicking in. This tranny lock out can be real annoying, especially when driving in traffic.....but not to worry, there is a cheap & easy solution. Search the Forum for "CAGS Eliminator". It an inexpensive device (like $20) sold by several of the Forum vendors. Device is connected into the harness atop the trans-axle.....instructions are easy to follow. The tranny lock-out solenoid will be defeated, but the instrument panel light will still come on. The whole purpose of this ridiculous piece of engineering is to allow the C6 to pass the Federal fuel mileage course with a sufficiently high rating to avoid the "gas guzzler" tax, so I guess installing a CAGS Eliminator is a small price to pay.

Be thankful you don't drive a Viper. It gets the guzzler tax and the CAGS. This was noted in the last Viper road test I read.

As stated previously, just get the CAGS eliminator. The light will still go on, but you can shift normally.

i take it you hasn't had the chance to read your owner manual completely, it is cover in there if you want to read up on it...just like everyone says, it is for fuel economy reason.

To put it simply...normal...check your owners manual.

Ordinarily, I might be inclined to say something like "read your manual!", but since I had to learn this the hard way with a C5 (and ignored reading my own manual), I can't cast any stones. Therefore, here is the explanation from your owner's manual:

One-to-Four Shift Light
(Manual Transmission)
When this light comes on,
you can only shift from
FIRST (1) to FOURTH (4)
instead of FIRST (1) to
SECOND (2).
You must complete the shift into FOURTH (4) to turn
off this feature. This helps you get the best possible
fuel economy.
After shifting to FOURTH (4), you may downshift to a
lower gear if you prefer.
Notice: Forcing the shift lever into any gear except
FOURTH (4) when the 1 TO 4 SHIFT light comes
on may damage the transmission. Shift only from
FIRST (1) to FOURTH (4) when the light comes on.
This light will come on when:
• The engine coolant temperature is higher than
169°F (76°C),
• you are going 15 to 19 mph (24 to 31 km/h) and
• you are 21 percent throttle or less.

HTH!

Get the shift elimnator from southerncarparts.com. It takes five minutes to install and eliminates the shift block, but not the light. It only improves the "corvette experience"!!!

The light and the mechanics can be turned off with a tune.

Not many people appear to read this document, however most of the answers are in there.
